Replacement Header Tank Mi16

Recommended Posts

starky5

I'm looking to replace my header tank on my mi16 converted 205 gti because I think it has a little leak and I don't seem to be able to get a decent sealing cap for it!

My question is what do people recommend? I have heard they are still available from Peugeot, will a genuine new one seal nicely? Or should i fork out and go down the line of Baker BM's aluminium header tank?

Mine is currently running the black rectangular header tank.

Thanks for any help.

Expansion bottles for phase 1.5 and 2 are NFP but the caps are available

Recently got a cap from motaquip for about £2.

I might try a genuine cap then, I've tried 3 different cheap ones and they have all been crap quality. Does anyone know what pressure the BBM header tank runs at?

Don't use new OE one's, they don't seal like the old original ones did, BEst bet is a local motor factor to get the old style metal ones

Never had an issue with the O.E ones I have fitted, just a tight fit when applying to a new bottle.

The motaquip one is an old style metal one too. They aren't listed for 205, i am using a 405 mi16 one. Seems to fit and seal fine.

Both the OE ones (plastic) I've had have been awful.

I've stuck with the original and collected a few on the way.

I did ask the UK dealers what they had but it was all plastic. The metal ones are Proberly long gone.

35k miles here on an o.e plastic replacement, no problems.

Better than metal imo, wont burn your hand on it !

You do realise there is two positions for the cap? Turn maybe 20 degrees, then theres a step and it then seals properly, its so you can release the pressure without the cap flying off.

Most 306 caps look like they will fit but will not close fully due to a pair of tabs they have which foul on the overflow pipe.

Yea I did realise there are two positions. I have a cheap metal replacement cap that just doesn't seem to seal very well. And I'm sure the actual header tank leaks a little from the join half way up
