Relocating Cd Player/plasticare On Dash?

Recommended Posts

Robbiedundy

Has anyone ever changed where their CD player goes? It's a bit of a pain having it right down near the floor when adjusting volume, radio station etc and was just wondering if it could be moved elsewhere and look acceptable?

With regards to plasticare on the dash.. I did a search about this, a few people saying to try it etc but I've not seen anyone actually do it. I'm planning to dye every piece of interior trim black, but the dash has some weird texture on it and I'm wondering if the plasticare will dye it properly? If anyone has any pics of them using it on the dash that'd be great :P I'll probably do it soon, so I'll upload some pics of how I get on!

I'm just trying to make the interior look more modern, so if anyone else has any suggestions please comment!

Cheers,

Robbie.

A handful of people have moved the head unit to the centre air vents.

Plasticare will struggle with the glossy finish of interior plastics.

Slo

satin black spray paint from halfords on mine looks the business and wont flake off inside like it does on bumpers and outside trim, easy to just go over it again to give it that new look again later on.

Have a look at the products on cleanyourcar.co.uk. There a Really good company and have lots of choice of plastic cleaners and gels. Gtechnik c4 may work on interior trim. It's a permanent restorer rather than a dye

I used plasticare on the centre trim which goes up the air vents and down to the stereo. Changed the colour from grey to black. worked nicely and didn't stand out.

Standard phase 1.5/2 position.

So it's "right down near the floor" as the OP says.

It's nothing to do with length of arms, it's how far you need to move your eyes from the road to see the controls.

Haha, I'm too tall for the gangsta stuff, but yeah it is in an awkward position when driving which is what I wana change :P

This bugs me too so I bought a Pioneer retro-ish stereo with a remote that I keep in the door pocket - no more leaning over and peering over the dash to see the road when I turn the radio up.

Another option is to use a removable face stereo and solder wires to the pins on both the stereo and the face, then the front panel can be mounted anywhere.

Or get an old sony with the motorised flip front, which has the buttons on one side and a screen on the other. You can tilt the screen upwards.

Without getting too Kirsty Allsop about it, some velcro stickys on back of remote / under seat bolster is real handy...

I agree Richard - mine is velcro'd on the top/side of the electric window switches in the door pocket on the GTI and under the dash on the CTI as it has wind-up windows.
