Quick Cooling Fan Help!

Recommended Posts

ORB

OK,

I have my GTI in for mot today, I am at work but I need it to pass as I need to assign my private plate to it today or I will lose it.

Typically the cooling fans wont run!

I have the later twin fan set up and relay box etc etc. All was working fine the other night.

As I am in the showroom, I cant look at it properly, but when I bridge the connections on the sensor connector, I get the relays clicking but no fan running, I have replaced the earths and still no good.

As I need to just sort it, what else do you think it could be?

HELP!

Check the fuse in the shunt box, mine had melted and caused a similar problem

If all else fails, the only bit of the test that really needs the fan is the emissions. If they do it quickly enough then it may well go through without the fans. Otherwise, come on, you work at a car dealer, there are plenty of work rounds the emission test that I'm sure i don't need to outline explicity on a public forum!!! ;)

Hmmm

Ill update further tonight, however I sorted the fans on a fag break, it was the shunt bx plug not correctly shoved 'home'

Now trying to get it re-tested.

only tester here is being a miserable blighter to say the least.

I think the oldschool testers that are used to 5 year old 207's are being jerks, no-one spoke to me yesterday (sales/service divide) I get the impression they are reluctant to test it due to engine swap etc etc. I am off today but have asked them to get on with it. I'll update later.

Some MOT testers seem to think it's their job to get old cars off the road, and they can always find something petty to fail them on if they really want to. I'd just take it somewhere else rather than deal with that kind of miserable old fart.
