Stance Help!

Recommended Posts

Kyle2690

Im looking to get a better stance on my 205 but dont really know how to go about it..

I like the height off my car as it is now (for now) but i cant stand the fact that my front wheels stick out more than my rear wheels... Now ive looked about, and its a choice between spacers to make up the difference, or replace the rear axle with one from a 306 gti? Now with my 205 being the 1.6 gti, it has hubs on the rear. Is it hard work to replace the hubs for discs? Or would i be better off just sticking with spacers???

I think you'll find a 306 gti won't fit without major fabrication. What you want is a 309 gti axle

guess you didn't know that a FWD car actually handles best when the front is wider right?

What is stance anyway? I've heard someone say they've 'stanced' their car but I've no idea what they meant? I'm imagining it goes hand in hand (like elton John and David furnish) with stretch, poke and rimming?? I realise homosexuality's becoming more social acceptable but it seems a step to far to me.

Anyway, you want it to look wider? You sound like a spacer kinda guy to me! Otherwise you'll be wanting a 309 beam. DRUMS(not hubs??) can be interchanged with discs yes, just swap everything over including the axles.

Or, buy a Fabia and put loads of stickers on it.

If you change the front hubs, driveshafts and brakes to 1.9 spec that will bring the front width in a bit and make it look better. 1.9 wheels on a 1.6 always look a bit off as they stick out too far.

Never really been much of a fan of widening the rear track on the 205. Aesthetically, I'm not convinced it works.

Wish I could find the delete and block button on my phone for you using the word stance. Go back to club polo.

I googled stance and this came up:

TBH, I'm not sure how you're going to achieve this with a 306GTi axle.

Interesting, I googled stance and this came up:

Whilst I imagine a 306 gti axle would be a good fighting weapon, I feel it may go against the rules of jujitsu.

Bunch of miserable tw@ts, new user with 4 posts and this is how to make him feel (not) welcome.

To the original poster; as you've probably realised we are not really into "stance" here - most of us own the 205 GTI because it is a very good handling car, and as such you'll find most folk on here seek to improve how the car DRIVES, not really what it looks like.

If wide rear track is what you want then by far the cheapest option is spacers like you say. The 309 beams are now getting scarce, and any original ones would almost certainly need a rebuild before you fitted them, this means you are into about £400 for the beam which is a lot of money just for the "look".

"I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too."

That's what you all sound like to the OP.

"I wanted a Volkswagen but peugeots are cheaper and the community is 1 million times better but I want to be accepted by everyone"

That's what the op sounds like to me

Stance is just a word. Is doesn't mean he wants the "stance scene" look with 107 degrees of neg camber on the back!

I agree with the above.

Maybe you should inform the OP of his options and tell him the advantages and disadvantages of these options.

I am personally a fan of the 309 GTI rear beam with ZX trailing arms; gives extra width for rear end stability at higher speeds, a degree of negative camber for that grip during cornering and sharp turn in due to the 0 degrees of toe, slightly stiffer setup too...well that's the theory and hopefully soon I'll be able to inform you on the outcome, but I have got a 25mm rear ARB to keep that rear end lively when I need it to be.

See not too hard is it!

well that's the theory

Do these two statements really go together? Surely you need to drive the car with the modification in question to be able to say if you are a fan of it?

I wasn't a fan of the 309 rear axle, made it understeer in my experience.

Looked good with 306 arms though!

309 beam + sl434s is a bit too wide!

You can be a fan of something even with no experience. But that is because I believe in the theory; hoping not to be proven wrong. I have experience of these different factors under separate scenarios and I'm hoping putting these together will provide a good setup.

Fitted to Citroen ZX's oddly enough... drum braked base models are easy enough to find, but disk braked Volcane/16v models less easy.
