Oil Cooler

Recommended Posts

kachel

Hi,

I used the search function but i can't find an aswer to this:

What type oil cooler is needed for the D6B engine. I've got a ring behind the oil filter with two cutted pipes on it. But i see different types.

Is the oil cooler a must? My 1.6 B6D doesn't have one and thats goes well. If not needed how to get the filter directly mounted on the engine?

Thanks

It is not a must, you can run without on the road with no issues.

Sounds like you have the heat exchanger type, this aids warmup times as much as keeping oil temperatures down as it uses the cooling system to disperse heat.

Thanx (again).

How do i connect the oilfilter directly to the engine? Can i just remove the ring behind the oil filter and then screw the filter on the engine?

Ok, i think i will not be doing any track work but it doesn't seem to be that much work to fit an oil-cooler. So i'll think about it. Thanx!

I never had problems driving standard 1.9 engine without an oil cooler (1.6 doesn't have it at all) , oil temperature was fine even while driving really hard ..

Only when i modified the engine , oil temp. started to be an "problem" ... so i fitted air-oil cooler , it helped a bit bu i still have a bit high oil temp. when driving fast thus the standard air-oil cooler isn't of much help either .

Good quality oil/oil filter and regular changes are key health for any engine (besides the rest , oil also cools internal engine parts ..)

I took a look tonight, how do i get the ring behind the oil filter off? Do i have to twist it around.

And when the ring behind the filter is of, is it then plug and play, like the same as the 1.6 gti engine?

remove the bolt in the middle with a 27mm socket, if you wish to run without any kind of cooler/exchanger you will need to fit the insert which you can get from a pug or citroen dealer for about £5.

The insert is an adapter which i can fit/screw into the engine and with a thread end where the oil filter is screwed on?

D6B should have the threaded insert there as standard - it's only GTi-6's and other late engines that do not.

However, it might well unscrew from the block stuck inside the sandwich plate clamp nut.

So it would be wise to spray some WD40 or alike into the sandwitch plate to avoid that i'll unscrew the insert from the block.

WD40 won't help. Just undo it and usually the securing nut will come off and leave the threaded insert in the block

Yep, that´s it! Locking bold came of and now i can fit the oil filter directly on the block. Thanx all.
