Stupid Insurance.

I'm planning going to see a car tomorrow, a 1.8 inca diesel 3 door N reg. So I've been looking up some insurance quotes, aviva is the cheapest so far with £737. A week or so back I went to see a different 1.8 diesel on a J reg and avivas price was £450! Does the year it was made make a difference on price? They're the same car pretty much! I'm currently 18, so if anyone knows of other insurance company's I should look up please say :)

Cheers

Robbie

That seems pretty steep. You could try a Broker - A Plan insurance have always been pretty helpful for me.

Have you tried the forum sponser insurers?

Another option could be C.I.S they were the best priced for me when I first passed all the way up till last month :) (they don't insure modified cars anymore)

Yip, afraid so, obviously the newer the car then the more that "risk" will cost to replace should it be written off. It's your age too.

Insurance is a rip-off or a ticket to go mental depending on which way you look at it, unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it.

Try Direct Line - I was genuinely surprised, excellent service too - 1990 1.9 GTi > £203.00 for 1 year fully comp. Hard to imagine it

getting any cheaper than that.

So the lady selling the car emails me the night before I'm going to see it to say they're going to keep it for another month, after having set up a meeting, sorting out the V5 and all that stuff.. I was pretty annoyed.. Buuut, I did find a 205 van for sale about an hour away from where I live, looked up a quote on aviva and it was £250 for the year! This makes no sense! That's 1/10th of what I paid to insure my 1.1L 205 last year.. but unfortunately I won't be buying that either so I'm still on the look out for a dturbo anywhere in the UK if anyone knows of one! :P

Edit: Oh and I looked at the forum insurers but you've gotta be 19/21 :/ and I will look at the other ones you's mentioned - cheers!

Each vehicle type on any insurers database has risks calculated using many variables (rating factors) specific to each company depending on what their "ideal" customer and car combo is. Simple things like production numbers of any given model such as a 205 van may proportionately have far less incidents e.g. accident and theft claims than a typical 1.1 205 thus deeming the van a less risky prospect for insurers right off the bat. The cost/risk adjusts by including data on how many 205 van/1.1 205 claims have been logged in your specific city, area and street right down to how many claims on a 205 van/1.1 205 have been made by people of your age, driving experience, background and so on.

That makes sense, but still, going from £2500 to £250 after one year of driving  I tried the meerkats, aviva always beat them for me!

Try adding your parents to the policy. When I was 18 / 19 this always reduced my price.
