Mot Emissions Fun!

I have a 2004 1.5 dci Clio that's our run around when I'm not using the 205. It's up for mot and going on the amount of blue smoke it's kicking out I'm expecting a fail! Basically does anyone know of a cheeky short term fix to stop the smoke for the mot!

Blue, as in oil, rather than grey, as in soot?

If it's the turbo seals which are truly knackered, then go and thank the MOT man for stopping you from continuing to use it. If it starts to fuel itself with oil from the compressor-side seals, it'll give itself full and uncontrollable welly until it runs out of "fuel" - ie, the contents of your sump.

Apparently, the approved VW main dealer procedure if one does it in the workshop is firstly to try to pour water down the inlet, then evacuate the workshop until all the bits land.

Yea it's blue smoke it's kicking out. I'm relatively sure it's not the turbo as I have swapped it for a supposedly know good second hand unit and it made no difference at all. I have heard that the piston rings are prone to being the cause

You're looking for a quick fix for knackered piston rings? Good luck!

I have seen this discussed on a forum recently, I thought it was here but may not have been.

Seemingly these Renault engines are prone to the oil control rings sticking. Apparently a possible fix is to fill the bores with diesel and leave overnight to soak to try and free up the oil rings.

Ah!.. never heard of this problem, but interesting fix!..

If filling cylinders with any amount of diesel, then maybe best to crank it over with a spanner by hand first tho?... Just incase it doesnt all seep through in time!

To give me a couple more months to sort out funds for a new car/engine.

Ill try the diesel trick, I had heard similar ideas and tried a enigine flush.
