Ignition Barrel Help.

as title says i need some help. are all ignition barrels the same. for example i need to know if a diesel one will fit on a gti car. wiring wise are they the same?

From what I can see on servicebox it looks like the only difference in ignition barrels is a changeover in 1988, so as long as the two cars are a similar age the barrels are identical in all models/specs.

From my own experiance every french car from the 80's onwards has the exact same ignition barrel this includes peugeot citroen and renault, only the keys, wiring and the steering lock on the back varies. Should imagine every single 205 ignition barrel would fit though.
