Stop Light / Electric Hood Issues

Recommended Posts

SWINNEY

My 205 1.9 CTI has developed another electrical feature today; namely that sometimes when you turn the ignition on the STOP light doesn't illuminate but the car starts and runs fine.

The main problem for me is that the electric hood doesn't work when this fault appears, has anyone any ideas where to start.

Thanks

Sorry if this has come up before but I had a quick look and could find anything.

Mark

Do the red warning lights on the oil and temp guages illuminate with just the ignition on when the stop light is supposed to be on?

Link I had this issue once although my roof isn't wired to the stop light but i got no replies. Have you tried a few taps on the top? Unplugging the speedo connectors a few times?

If the stop light isn't coming on with the ignition on and the engine not running it is a problem with the oil pressure warning light switch or the associated wiring. Look under the inlet manifold and you'll see two sensors on the front of the engine, unplug the wire on the smaller one and temporarily ground it with the ignition on. This should turn the stop light on, if it does you have a faulty switch and if it doesn't you have some bad wiring.

temp warning light will also light up the stop light if that isnt working with just the iginition on then its a problem somewhere under the dash

The coolant temp warning light is triggered by the oil pressure light/stop light which is triggered by the low oil pressure sender actually not seeing any pressure (as the engine isn't running). Anthony posted this recently which covers the warning lights pretty comprehensively.

Edit: I just read your thread and you might get further armed with the knowledge that there is more than one layer of flexible circuit board that are interconnected at various points by screws.

You can bypass the stop light for the power hood so it works when the engine is running and therefore does not need the stop light. That will help you also determine if the power hood mechanism is working ok.

quite likely, or the stop light bulb.

Yes, if you follow the wire from the switch it goes via the under-bonnet brown multiplug then through the bulkhead to the under-dash multiplugs and you can ground it at any point to see how far the bad wiring reaches. Or it could be the bulb as welshpug says but its easier to ground wires than take the dash apart so I'd start there.
