405, Belingo, Picasso Rear Arms/beam

Recommended Posts

calvinhorse

I'm rebuilding a rear beam for my 405 using a Picasso drum beam as a base (same as 405 partner berlingo).

The picasso beam is in very good condition so I want to re use as much as possible.

Question is Are the rear arms the same?

I've search and found one person saying the partner beam is 20mm wider (no proof of this), I'm unsure if the camber and and toe is the same? The 405 beam on the car looks to be in good condition but appears to have a fair amount of camber (intentional not fooked!) and obviously I want to keep this.

Would the Picasso have less camber?

Thanks for looking, any input appreciated :)

P.s the beam is now stripped and bearings removed so can't just measure everything..

They do share the arms according to servicebox, there's two part numbers depending on age for the xsara picasso, the vans share the same pair, no idea what the difference is specifically, everything bolted to them looks to be the same.

the ride height is one thing I have noticed that does vary vastly to the 405, and very long bumpstops.

I haven't even looked at the bumpstops tbh, I couldn't even tell you what they look like!

Thanks for that, I think I'll have to do some measuring with the arms off the 405 to double check, everything I can see looks identical bar the Picasso has a hole for the ABS sensor on the arm, maybe that's the difference?

i know mi16s have specific arms

i stripped an estate beam hoping to just rebuild it and fit it straight on my car, but a handy book i have tells me the different toe and camber of arms.

it also gives the measurements on setting the ride height on all 405 models using a dummy shock

from your 405 to the xsara picasso/van arms you mean? Think you're right there, the sensor is bolted on in a different place though I can't remember where it is on the 405, been so long since I saw mine

geometry data will be on Autodata usually, though haven't got that at work.

where does it say MI16's have specific arms?

The Picasso arms had the abs sensor at the rear most part of the arm.

Nice work chaps, 2.5 toe ins more than enough for me, it was more the camber that concerns me.

I can measure that on the bench easy enough

Autodata says:

Xsara picasso 2.0 HDI

standard duty:

4.8mm toe in,

1 deg 13min camber

Heavy duty.

3.7mm toe.

1 deg 14 min camber.

2002 on Berlingo 2.0 HDI 800 kg

4.74 mm toe in.

1 deg 13 min camber

2002 on Berlingo 2.0 HDI Berlingo multispace

1.41mm toe in

1 deg 14 min camber

Looks like earlier lighter duty vans have far less toe in, but all around the same camber figures.

i.e, 96-02 Kombi.

0.8mm toe in.

1 deg 15 min camber.

Hmmm I wish work would set up for machining 405/belingo/Picasso arms, can't see the market being overly big! Front uprights should be doable tho..

For the sake of .2 deg of camber I might just stick the Picasso arms on.

Thanks for your help
