205 Gti, Cti Or Something Else?

Hi folks,

So I'm in the market for another car. Recently I bumped my MK4 Golf GTI into the back of someone's car and suffice to say it came off worse and the insurance company have written it off.

I'm now left with a bit of a predicament. I need a car for my job (IT geek for a local charity travelling between a couple of sites) and I'm not sure what to do about one.

I still have my old 206GTI which sadly failed the MOT back in February for the second time on the rear beam. My original idea was to get the Golf rather than fix the 206 after spending £700 on the previous MOT and sell the 206 on for parts, but being a little bit lazy it's been sat on my driveway for the past 6 months (okay technically it has been moved once or twice off the driveway to get stuff in and out of my garage).

Since I got rid of my last 205 back in 2010 I was always determined to get another one. At the time my wife (now ex-wife) wasn't happy about this idea, heck she wasn't happy about the 206 either.

So I've been looking around at 205's, having had 4 of them in the past I know that they do need a bit of TLC, and not having a great deal of mechanical knowledge (but friends who do who are willing to give me a hand when need be) I thought maybe it might be a good opportunity to get another one.

I've also quite fancied having a CTI, just so I can say... I had one of them. The thing is I'm not sure what the Pros and Cons are of the CTI. I've seen a couple advertised (and one just round the corner from me in Torquay a while ago) and I wasn't sure if maybe it was worth a try?

I'm kind of on the fence about them, I like the look of them and my daughters like the look too, but I'm thinking with summer coming to an end would I be facing the joys of leaking roofs and the cold getting in? There's also the thing about them being a bit more girly... are they really considered more girly versions of the 205? (Okay, I drive a 206, I guess that's a bit girly too!).

My other option for the time being is to get the 206 back on the road. If I was to strip down the 206 for parts can anything be used on the 205? (I'm thinking maybe wheels and maybe the engine?)

I did start to wonder that yesterday when pricing up the parts for the MOT, I'm looking at £400 plus labour alone. So I guess it's the choice between a GTI and CTI now. I do have a garage (albeit full of junk right now) so I could put the CTI in the garage in the winter and just get it out to use it, but I wasn't sure how they compare with say a standard 1.9 with sunroof (I doubt I'd find a cheap non-sunroof one).
