the entire bulkhead is covered by the sound deadening foam the heater is bolted to the bulkhead and the dash is bolted at both sides, to the heater box and 2 bolts that go through the bulkhead into the scuttle panel which one of is what the ecu hangs on that you have described. Unless you cut/tear it round the heater box it will be nigh on impossible to remove it all without removing the heater box first. ECU plug wiring goes over the steering column and is possible to pull it back through but its a right bitch i've done it myself

To be honest, it's really not difficult to remove the main section of dash and that's got to be the way to go to do it properly.

You're going to struggle to remove the complete sound deadening in anything like one piece with the dash still part fitted, as there's various clips securing it and then you've the loom near the fusebox and the heater box that are going to stop you. It's a large piece of sound deadening and surprisingly weighty too (particularly if it's got damp) - it's the full width of the car, and runs from the bottom of the windscreen right down to the seam at the bottom of the bulkhead.

Even with the dash out, you're still going to have to make one or two small cuts to remove it unless you go to the hassle of unplugging everything from the fusebox and (from what I recall) seperating a few wires.

mmm, sounds like a big job :o . the main area i need to work on is the drivers side. So is it possible to remove it just from the right hand side? no need to take it any further than the heater matrix i think, if i can i sould be ok. Or is it the ecu bracket not possible to remove without first removing the dash?

Thanks for the help guys, matt.
