Tu3M -> Tu5J4 Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've searched the forum but did not find much info on this really. My current engine is getting a little tired and I'm thinking of an engine swap next season. Another TU3m would of course be the simpliest way. But since there's a lot of time to think through other choices I'm also thinking of an upgrade and I was thinking a TU5j4 from a saxo vts would be nice. I'm sure someone on the forum has gone through this (TU/XU -> Tu5j4). A few words on the process like what other parts need changing would be great! Gearbox, axles, loom mods, etc.

Just gathering info for now, thanks in advance for your input! :)

A lot of people use the standard TU engine mount but Trim it down to fit round the cam belt cover or get one made ,

can use the tu5 box with the 205 mount or there are other MA boxes that fit but later ones need to change the seedo drive to mechanical but that's simple job ,

Exhaust manifold is the biggest worry really need to cut and shut so to speak with a 205 one and tu5 one or get one made , wiring I dont think is too difficult should work it out with a decent wiring diagram, make sure you have an unlocked ecu ,

You will need a gti fuel tank also for the higher pressure injection pump

The rest is pritty self explanatory to be fair mate a few mounts off the engines will need swapping and you're fine with the subframe you have think I've covered most of it there , good luck :)

Whoops :S misread it, i saw it as an 8valve replacement lol. There's a thread called XS disaster I think, the guy did the same 16valve conversion.

that's the best way I can help

hey zacky and jon, thanks for the info!

the xs disaster thread is great! lots of answers there.

I didn't read very carefully though, just quickly went through it, so there are still some uncertainties in my head. Will read it once more later

bumped into another alternative browsing for a new engine, a TU3FJ2 73kW off a 106 xsi. Would that be a bit more simple of a job? Is the exhaust mani the same? It's a 1360 just like my current one which is a bit better an option law-wise here in my country.

Although you may be able to use your manifold, and just elongate the holes slightly
