Which Tyres For 205 Gti?

Recommended Posts

Basset

Hi, looking at replacing the tyres on my 205, 195/50R15, currently have goodyear eagle F1 GSD3's fitted but their no longer avaliable! Gutted! Any suggestions? The best goodyear that size now is an efficiency performance? Or was thinking of trying the michelin pilot exaltos? Really want something as good in the wet as the F1s if poss. Any advise would be great.

Cheers

Rob

PE2's are brilliant in the wet, and they replacement PS3 seem to be very good as well, addressing the slightly soft sidewalls, though they're nowhere near as soft as some!

If you can justify the cost and it's primarily a road going car, you can't fault PE2's if you can still find some.

I like Falken 912's as an all rounder too, especially for the money, but again these have been made obsolete. I've not tried the replacement 914's yet, but have heard pretty good things about them.

Hankook Evo S1's I think are very under-rated too.

Yokohama AD08 have a A (the best) wet grip rating and are a good grippy tire with a nice stiff sidewall, they also come in the OEM size of 185/55 x 15.

Didn't realise the exalto 2 was superseded, tempted to try the pilot sport 3 then.

you might struggle to get them in the UK in a 195 50, but there's plenty in germany.

have used Falkens in the past and are a good cheaper tyre.

AD08 is a track tyre!

S1 Evos are pretty decent all rounders I have found. Although the newer style isn't as good as the older I thought personally.

Debateable. However, i'd concede it's track "ish", for me it has all the positive qualities of grip/stability etc without the massive wear/rumble of real track stuff like R888/A048

I've got Falken 914's on my 306 & they are definitely as good as the 912's so I wouldn't hesitate to get them for a 205 as a cheap but decent tyre.
