405 Door Handles On A 205 - Modernising;)

Last night I read sooooo many of these threads trying to find some mods I'd like to do to my 205 and one of the threads I found was about putting 405 door handles into a 205 - but apparently you have to cut the whole surround out and weld it onto a 205 door? Is this true? I'm sure I also read somewhere that 405 doors were the same size as 205 ones, can anyone confirm that? Would be much more simple to swap doors than the other method. I know it seems a lot for a simple little mod, but I really fancy updating the cheap-looking original handles (IMO) for a more modern look. Also if anyone has any pics of 405 handles on a 205 that'd be fantastic

405 doors are totally different to a 205. 309 ones are the same. Seems a lot of work for nothing. Are your handles broken? Maybe just paint them body colored if you want to do something different.

External, should've been more specific haha. I've seen painted ones before and they look worse than standard :/ perhaps ill try something else..

I do have set of 205 doors with 405 handles (somewhere stored at my parents, so no pics) and its a nice mod...

You have to cut the metal from the 405 door and weld it in the 205 door...

The mod Rob is going for is the flush look ie no protruding door handles used to be done a lot on Vw golf's where they would swap the Audi A4 door handles and fit them to the golf door.Involves a lot of work.But it would look nice when done and ive never known it to be done to a 205 before so it could be a first.

It's something I've always wanted on a 205, and does look really nice. The shape isn't massively different but they are a flush fit, so a very subtle change. In all my years as a 205 enthusiast I've only ever seen photos of it done on one 205 though.

Got a spare door when I bought my car, might give it a go.. Anyone know exactly what I'll need off the 405? Just the handle & surrounding metal?
