Do Random People Stop And Ask You About Your Car

Recommended Posts

Anthony

Increasingly, yes.

Notice that I get thumbs up and flashes from other 205's far more often these days, and every few months I'll comes back to the car to find someone remanising about how they either owned or wanted one, how they never see any on the roads these days, how they'd love one, and usually being complimentary about the condition.

It's almost always middle aged businessmen oddly, rather than those you'd perhaps initially associate with being car enthusiasts.

Yes, but it pains me when they ask if it's a 1.9, as I feel compelled to have 'that' discussion again.

I always get asked about it. I even had someone cross the road and come on to my driveway early one morning when I was washing it before going to Castle Combe for a track day.

It's always the same, they either had one, knew someone that had one or wanted one and I always get the is it a 1.6 or 1.9? It's easier these days as I don't have to explain how it became a 2.1

When I bought mine home on a trailer I had a guy overtake in a v8 Holden ute, I was surprised when he gave a thumbs up out of the window, not to stereotype too much, but guys in big 6l v8's generally don't seem the type to appreciate a little, delicate French hatchback.

Also, when driving up the Kwinana freeway I had 2 guys in a Hilux wind the window down and shout out "nice car" and give the thumbs up.

One day a child told me 'your car sounds gay', this cut deep, I considered trading it in for an mx5 to regain some of my masculinity :P

Even being a base model I get people saying nice car, although the white pepperpots and spotlamps do scream rally car ,its the daily drive

Its a weekly ocurance. Both ways. The people who know and appreciate them and the simpleton unenlightened twonks who disregard it for being old. Also the muppets who feel they have to speed off between every set of lights just to show how quick they are... At having to stop at the next set.

Just take the rough with the smooth.

Usually do take the time to talk but dont like to spend too long.

I've had loads and it's not even a gti, usually at petrol stations but had a few at traffic lights open their window and comment on the car, so far it's always been positive

Also get the usually nods and thumbs up from the retro/classic owners, especially the mid 90's owners.

I have three cars, 205 Mi16, Alfa GT, and a Mazda Rx7. The 205 is by far the slowest of the three because inevitably when I park it anywhere and come back I have to have a conversation with someone who wants to know about it. Explaining that it has brakes from a Citroen fridge van and an Mi16 engine often confuses things further.
