Rear Drum/hub Loose

Recommended Posts

Following a spirited track session yesterday, on the drive home in the 205 it felt as though the RHS rear wheel was loose or unbalanced. I pulled over, wheel nuts were tight, so I slowly drove the rest of the way home.

Last night I had a quick look with the wheel off and the problem seems to be the hub/drum. I removed the grease cap and the hub nut seems tight - but the drum itself is loose. This would explain why the wheel felt like it was unbalanced.

But because the hub nut seems tight and the stake is in place there is obviously a problem. Wheel bearing? No noise leading up to the problem, though.

I won't have time for a few days to take the hub off and have a look. Any tips on getting the hub nut off?

Sounds like wheel bearing from your description. Getting the hub nut off is straightforward enough, 32mm socket needed.

Just to close this post out - it was a failed wheel bearing.

Cheers
