A Couple Of Small Bits = Big Difference

Recommended Posts

AlexRS2782

Picked the 205 back up from Miles yesterday - amazing the difference a few small bits can make to a car :) Had a chance to take it for a nice long run earlier today & you can feel the difference in the car to before I dropped it down :)

Finally no more starting problems and starts first time now so getting the wiring tidied up via the wiring loom, brown multiplug, connections, etc, was definitely the way to go :) Plus new connections / tidied wiring seems to mean my oil pressure gauge is finally accurate & not floating around from left to right like it was before :)

While it was there, also had the throttle body cleaned / degreased of about 20 years of crud build up & the car just drives & idles so much better. It wasn't bad before I dropped it down but you can definitely feel the difference with the car now idling evenly and not lumpy every now & again and also having a nice smooth acceleration with no flat sports.

Miles also fitted a decent second hand exhaust manifold to replace my cracked one, plus a full set of new exhaust & inlet manifold gaskets seems to have really improved things as well with no more air / exhaust gas leaks which it looks like I may have had before & not been aware of.

Also got a new radiator in which does seem to have helped the car run slightly cooler than before I dropped it down, although difficult to tell in the 30+ weather.

I'd definitely recommend anyone with a 205 getting the wiring loom / brown multiplug / connections sorted out before they start giving you issues ;)

Only downside I found on my drive today was that it appears the slow speed setting for the radiator fan appears to be intermittent so that will need to get sorted at some point but otherwise I certainly cant complain - nice to still have the love for the 205 courtesy of Miles :D

Thanks for the feedback Alex,

The entire sensor loom was replaced and the main loom lost around a 6" to make sure the wire was not corroded and new crimps used, Yes I know some people may say the same issue will arise again and yes it will but they should be good for another 20 years.

so new harnesses are still available?

my gti wont run unless the fusebox is open and the radio only kicks in if i wiggle the trunk if the wires and the heaterblowers dont work im intending to replace the enitre loom piec meal.

ive checked fuses and the blower works hooked straight to battery so i know its not the fan. i will just use single silicone wires right to area and lable +clear heatshrink so i know whats what for future referance.

is this wise or just me doing over kill ?
