Holy **** Early Morning Near Miss!

On my way to work this morning about 6am on the M1 southbound just before the leicester junction, it seems that a lorry or something had dumped a load of large rocks in the carraigeway, I saw one too late for me to be able to avoid it. I was in the middle lane doing about 70mph, and it bounced under my car. I hit it with both nearside wheels and it felt like hitting a kerb at 70!! a bit of a sh*t myself moment trying to keep the car going the right direction, then pulled into the left hand lane and slowed down.

At that point I was fully expecting my tyre to go flat and was preparing to have to move on to the hard shoulder. luckily it held out.

I got off the motorway and parked at work to assess the damage. somehow it missed the driving light, bumper and arches, but there was large marks on both tyres where it hit and a large dent in my sill.

the tracking seemed ok from the motorway to the car park, but something felt out of balance

I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get it jacked up and see if theres any other damage.

Happy friday to me!

TT205

Same happened to me many years ago - funnily enough also southbound on M1 but was at night on an unlit section there must have been 15-20 cars on the hard shoulder with flats, thankfully like you I wasn't one of them - doesn't half s*it you up though !

Seems like that kind of a morning, a bad 205 Friday.

Got in the car (not feeling the greatest this morning) and started it up and it didn't sound healthy at all. Popped the bonnet to hear the exhaust blowing like crazy; 1 stud and nut totally missing, and two nuts almost falling off!

I was not a happy bunny, but I'll take my problem over yours any day of the week!

I called the rozzers to let them know and they said they were already on their way so hopefully nobody else hit anything before they arrived!

There was a dog sitting in the fast lane of the M8 this morning.

I wasn't in a 205 and I didn't hit it. I dare say if i had been the 205 would have come off worse.

I bet it was driving an Audi ;). The M8 is a nightmare for people (and dogs?) sitting in the outside lane...

ya like dags? :P

I'll stick a pic up later of my nicely reshaped sill if I can be arsed, luckily my budget paint job means a budget repaint job, after some sort of dent pulling attempt

My girlfriend has been doing the hateful Glasgow to Edinburgh M8 commute for 5 years now. It changed her, she now has the thousand yard stare ........

Ive never driven the M8 but from this thread I think I'd probably pull off with the same stare as the guy in your avatar! People on foot on the motorway (with the exception of roadworks), be it along the hard shoulder or anywhere, never fails to make my arse twitch.

It's more the driving of the general public, its a 2 lane motorway that desperately needs an additional lane. The dreaded truck wars of attrition are rife. Nothing worse than continuously being stuck behind lorries waging a seemingly endless battle with one overtaking with a mighty a 0.1mph advantage thus creating long queues of tightly packed cars driven by impatient commuters. If you open up a tiny gap some idiot WILL undertake and barge in with centimeters to spare so everyone trundles along far too closely to prevent this arsecockery. As a result accident occur often and the diversions are unavoidably terrible. And then you have the "mile of hell" when entering Glasgow, even 5 lanes can't save such a badly planned motorway! The reports speak for themselves :

The above only applies to peak times, other than that it's fine. :)
