15" Rims That Don't Need Spacers In Combo With Brembos From 40

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any suggestions.

Tired of failing MOT due to spacers and wheels...

Thanks :)

Btw: I got an offer of some Team Dynamics Rims from a guy here, but he's a 5 hour drive away, so rather be sure it will work before I get those. Anyone able to confirm or the opposite?

Not very much help but my Oz Rally Race wheel are 15x7 and clear with shed loads of room over my Brembos

Team dynamics will fit over fine as long as they are the correct fitting offset etc for a 205.

He's from Norway Wes, which - like many other parts of Europe - has a rather more draconian "MOT" than ours.

Perhaps in Norway they are a little more hot on these things.

Pro race 1.2 will fit JUST, in a direct pug fit of ET 15 IIRC.

Thanks, those OZ wheels are quite nice too... ok. The Team Dynamics are 15x7 with ET 15, so I guess there is hope.

Welsh: Thanks, will search up those too.

Do you know if these tires are any good?

Got offered them for a reasonable price. I have Yoko A048s present, will the difference be significant?:

What are the team dynamics wheels you have seen (pro race 1.2 is a team dynamics wheel btw)

No experience of those tyres sorry, and dont know anyone that has done a direct comparison, though comments were favourable from those i have seen using them.

Aha, didn't get that...

This is a pic of them:

Got offered the tires for about 300£ for the lot, think it's not a bad price?

I have pro race 1.2 et15 they fit over my skyline 4 pots. The et18 didn't but could be different for brembo's

They look good, pro race 1 iirc.

Yeah they are pro race 1s.

Have them on my clio. Lighter than pro race 1.2's.

Ok. Then I think it'll be those rims and tires.

Still got heaps of thread left on my A048's too so just to start using the car again then :)

Btw. these rims got ET 23, 7" wide. Some guys claim they don't fit without spacers. I guess there is a ET 15mm version that will maybe?

Yep, you would need about et15 for a 205, they would work on a 405 but need spacers on a 205.

PR1.2 are brilliant wheels, I had them on my track car in 15x7 and no rubbing. :D

Ok. But only slightly then I suppose?

I found a brake disc (288x28mm) that moves the caliper 9mm inwards. Due to clearance problems between lower wishbone and disc it seem I might be restricted to move the caliper 6mm inwards, and would need an "invisible" 3mm spacer between the hub and brakedisc.

With this mod I'm actually hoping it ain't far off getting to use SL434's without spacer either, but have forgot how large a spacer that actually is initially needed for Brembos with them in a 205 configuration.

Slight update now.

Got my Renault brake disc today, and I have now opened up the centerhole to 65mm to fit peugeot hubs.

It has 10mm different height, but as it is 288x28mm the difference in distance from hub surface to center of brakedisc is 9mm compared to my 283x26 discs due to the different thickness.

IMAG1222_zpsb8196a33.jpg

The bonus is that the disc is 5x108, but luckily the small mounting holes to fit the disc to the hub is at the correct location for the 4x108 setup, so I just need to open them up to 12.5 or 13mm, and drill one new hole.

Then I'll put a 3mm shim/spacer between the hub and brakedisc, and space the caliper 6mm inwards.

That'll as I said gain 9mm total.

I tried the SL434 today with a 10mm spacer and that was just enough to clear the brakes, 8mm was just not enough, so I hope 9mm will just about go. If not I'm ready to slightly grind the inside of the rims, and dress a tiny bit of the edge of the caliper, only 0.5mm or so.

This will give very little distance between the outer part of the wishbone though, so I will probably just grind off the forging edge of that so it gains about 2mm extra clearance. Approximately 3mm total.

If too bad I might space the disc 4mm out and rather move calipers 5mm inwards.

I guess if I ever will fit new wheel bearings I'll add the 3-4mm shim between the hub and the bearing.

I'm going to order some new front wheel bearings, and make a 3mm shim to put between bearing and hub.

Recieved one Pro Race 1 today, and even with ET23 the clearance to the Brembos was immense!

IMAG1229_zpsaaf4d14f.jpg

I also spaced the caliper 6mm inwards and temporary put the new disc onto the hub with some 3mm spacer between hub and disc.

Then I managed to put on the Speedline SL434's, at least just about.

It was slight contact between caliper and rim, caliper now looking like this:

IMAG1232_zps7459a893.jpg

Rim looking like this:
IMAG1231_zps75d6ede6.jpg

I still have the possibilty to move the caliper 0.5mm extra inwards, and after that I believe that a slight round with the grinding disc inside the wheels in the areas where the red stripe is visible should be enough to manage SL434's without spacer and with Brembos.

Bonus now the disc is of correct thickness also, 28mm.

The "finished" object now looks like this.. Just drilled the holes manually so not looking too good, but I think it'll work without any issues.

Update on this issue.

I've already got 3mm spacer rings machined and changed to new wheelbearings and put the spacer rings between the hubs and the wheel bearing inner race.

Today I picked up the caliper spacers, got both 5 and 6mm thick ones as I'm not 100% sure what's the right fitment.

Looking forward to get it fitted again to see how it turns out. Quite an easy conversion actually, and might give the possibility of a much broader choise of rims with the brembo calipers.

Only thing I'm a bit worried about if the disc sits a tad too close to the wishbone/balljoint area. I made new protectors for it at least so hope it'll stand the heat.
