What's This Light On My Dash? (Brake Pads Or Diagnostic?)

Recommended Posts

johnhenry

Evening

after plugging everything back in to the dash/earth blocks this light came on my dash

there was a disconnected coupe of wires that i plug into the earth block, and this light came on (sorry didnt realise the photo was so blurry)

Its had it;s pad wear sensors broken and cut back by a previous owner

I saw in my handbook for the 205 its either the diagnostic or pad sensor? assume its pad sensor, just want to make sure im not damaging something massively,

if all is well ill just disconnect these wires and forget about them

Cheers

John

should it even have a choke as it doesnt have carb? is the SAD the 'choke'

should this go out after a while then? like when its warmed up?

got pretty much up to temp and it was still on :S

EDIT - after researching using the search feature, its supposed to hang loose, so loose it shall be!

Slo

most 205 clocks are universal and only certain bulbs are fitted/connected depending on model there's also an engine management light or K light above the rev counter

Umm, which of the two lights are you questioning?

There's the orange choke light, at the bottom of the tacho.

There's the red brake warning light at the top of the centre strip.

I dunno about the 205, but on some cars the choke light's positively switched off by a connection in the cable shorting to earth when it's pushed in. Just take the bulb out and tape over the hole...

The brake warning light could be the snipped pad warning wires earthing somewhere, could be low fluid, could just be handbrake on...

The choke lamp is connected to a yellow wire that's left unconnected at the other end under the steering column. Mine was clipped up out the way.

As above, it's the choke light - chances are that the yellow wire loose behind the dash has been plugged into the earth block.

That said, there's not even usually a bulb in that slot on the cluster on a GTi, so someone's clearly been behind there at some point.
