Don't worry, I'm about to have my 'special birthday' and have owned one continuously since I was 26!

Wait until Miles comes along, he's only a bit older than me.

I have owned one of my 205's for 26 years!

I reckon there'll be a renaissance on sunroof models in the future; it's what the '80s / '90s were all about! :D

There's an immaculate 205 1.9 sunroof model on eBay , it's done 30k and full service history currently on £4500 it's been up half a day hahahaha

I bought my mk1 escort a few years back for not having a sunroof, it's all about the rallying with these cars.

The pug i bought to use on a sunny day however and wanted the sunroof!

Snap. I purposely looked for a sunroof one as it will be an occasional car...... If I ever remember where I put all the parts.

Auto GTi's are worth a bit aren't they?

Never mind the mint, totally original, never sat in cars with plastic still on the seats etc etc!... But if this is anything to go by then it looks like a four door base model thats been owned by someone a little famous could be worth more!... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4389652.stm

..As the title specifies 'GTi' tho, then I'll stick with the mint, original, very early or very late ones!

There's so many different factors to consider tho for any one car. For example is a 1.6 GTi worth more than a 1FM?... Nope!.. But what if the 1FM is a total shed and the 1.6 was the proven first ever GTi to roll off the line, mint condition and pulled out from under a cover on it's 30th birthday?!..

I find it interesting, but sometimes shocking to see what some cars sell for out there. While it's nice to think that you own something thats desireable, I just hope that these cars can remain affordable for genuine enthusiasts, being used and enjoyed, and not all end up in Sir Alan Sugars basement as 'an investment'.

Wow - my original post still going strong!!!

With me it is partly having a car which is a investment, but not really in a way that will make me lots of cash, but more of a satisfying feeling that in a world where cars hemorrhage value, I have something which is probably doing the opposite, and has a huge cult status to boot.....

An experience I had recently says it all. I was driving my 1.9 and was aware of a middle aged guy in a Civic Type R staying alongside me on a dual carriageway. I looked over to him, in doing so he pointed at the car, looked at me, and gave a big thumbs up! Maybe he owned one years ago, or maybe he just knows how good they are - who knows!

Anyone else had a similar "moment of appreciation" by a fellow motorist ?? !!

Maybe in 30 years time.

Ford meade a few very rare 4 door mk2 escort RS2000's. They are rare. But really, no one wants them!

4 door is not sporty, who wants another 4 door family car for the weekend?

Same can be said with Autos GTI's?

:)

I certainly wouldn't fancy an auto GTi takes the fun out of driving in my opinion.

I've seen a few reach prices above similar condition manual box ones though - I'd guess maybe that's because they are usually on an L plate though which seems to command a slightly higher price if I remember right, that and the Japanese market story too, I guess.

I agree. I find it's my way of justifying having one too (apart from the justification that comes from 'just really wanting one')! If times get hard and moneys tight, then my argument is that it's not costing anything to just sit there for a year! ;)

I havnt been out in my own 205 yet, but even with it on the trailer on the way back home there was the odd 'point / wave / thumbs up'.

I think there's always people who will be interested in the 'something different' or unique aspect. Sure, it might be maroon and have two extra doors but if it's one of a few, and made that way for whatever special reason then I think that can be interesting. I know if I was to make it over to the likes of Pugfest for example, then as nice as it would be to see loads of lovely white or red or miami GTi's etc etc, it would be the odd looking one that stands out. I dont know if I would fancy a mint, 500 miles from new, beige GL... But I'd certainly appreciate it and compliment the person who did. :)

..we're veering off topic a bit here too.. Apoligies!
