3 Cars Into 1 Opinions?

Recommended Posts

Mattr5uk

I have a y reg 206 1.6xsi a 205 j reg auto and a j 1.6 205 gti. The 206 isn't worth much up together so is going to be a donor the 205gti is a shed but plenty of good mechanical part and the autos a good non-sunroof shell. So with what I have to hand in your opinions what would be the best combinations to make something out of the 3? Any thoughts on this is much appreciated.

The 206 1.6 16v engine not of any good then?

They're alright but there's better IMO, not exactly a straight fit into a 205 compared to an xu either. Is the 206 'fly by wire' throttle?

Yes fly by wire which would add to the problems I'm sure?

Yep, easiest route would be to fit 106gti manifolds and management onto it, but then it starts getting expensive......

yep, would need the aforementioned J4 management and inlet adapting (head needs drilling to add a few studs, not a big job) also to avoid multiplexing issues and faffing with adapting a cable throttle, C2 vts inlet would flow far better but would still require a manual cable conversion (STD TU5JP4S inlet is used on 180 bhp C2 R2 rally cars)

I wouldn't say it was an expensive route, as there's a lot of them about, but agreed its added expense for no real gain, its quite a heavy engine also and to use a BE4 box to avoid the weaker MA box adds further faff/expense to the project.

depends massively on your capabilities and access to tools etc, how good you are with wiring...

My capabilities are always debatable plenty of access to tools. I have access to a garage with 2 ramps and a pit so most of the equipment is at hand. I can work my way round a multimeter however lack any experience in conversions often Ive found it hard to warrant the cost to actually go through with anything. If I don't have the parts already at hand I'd rather go down a gti6 route.

Fly by wire! LOL!

Sales talk for complicated stuff.

My opinion would be to resotre the Gti, it'll be worth more than a Auto/Gti re-shell.

The Gti body's are different to base models, but not sure about the auto?

The main differences are extra gussets at the inner wings, and the rear arches are different.

Scrap the 206, or if you want to make money, strip it bare weigh in the shell and sell all the parts on ebay.

The gti is a bit beyond economical repair I think ???? I agree it would be worth more restoring it than the auto reshell. Theres loads of differences with the body so it would be IMO better to do something different with it than make it a gti replica. Anyone interested in a 206?????

Just one of the hidden poor repairs.

If the 205 GTI is past restoring, then maybe bung all three cars on eBay and start with something else from the proceeds?

Well the gti is worth more in parts than it would be to try an sell as it is. Just need to find the right car to use the bits from it for. The 206 will probably go on eBay doubt it would fetch £300 and the auto as well wouldn't sell for much weigh in value I would expect so I'd rather keep hold of that as a solid base to work with.

should have said that at the start

in that case

sell/ strip the gti

keep the auto

turn the 206 into a track car/race car

Certainly strip and use/sell the parts off the gti. Now if I use the tank, fuel lines, rear axle, front subframe and suspension there's a base to work with but into what is yet to be decided my initial thoughts were the 2.0 8v turbo conversion but after reading a few things about it I get the impression it's more hassle than its worth so leaves me with the feeling the Gti6 is the way to go. The 206 is a no go so ill move that on. Need to finish off and sell a couple of my other 205s then ill start the work on the auto. It's a blank canvas ATM

If you end up with another GTI I'd save every last part off that one before you get rid of it, I mean every clip nut and washer.

Or even better keep the car till your project is finished then sell on the remaing parts.

Nothing worse than forking out £100 for a part that you threw away a few months earlier.

You'd be supprised how much parts are going for lately.
