And I've seen 1 205 GTI... loads of XRDTs and a few 309 diesels and xs models but no GTIs... where are they hiding... this country created them and they're are hiding from me

I was hoping to get some nice picatures!

There are a lot of french cars out here (understandably) but it's normally the base models. I've not seen a 205 GTI for ages, either in the UK or here. I did see a 205 multivan the other day :) It doesn't look used so I might have to pop by and see if I can buy it

They're all hiding... I say one for a split second as it passed the end of my road but apart from that... slightly gutted.

I'm spending my last day in France today and I have only managed to spot 3 other GTIs in two weeks

I am gutted... it's bad enough that I can't drive over here but not seeing good cars is making it worse

I remember counting the 205's on my way from Calais to a rally in west flanders, I think I counted 20 in about 2.5 hours, but not one GTI, till we got to the rally, and there was one gti with a maxi type body and two proper euro rallyes :D

Probably a few dozen VTS spec saxo's around the local area, however their VTS could be an 8 valver on Michelin steelies!

I spend a reasonable amount of time in France (half my family is French!)

We rarely see 205gti's and in our 3000mile trip last summer we saw just one! However the reception of mine was always nice with pleasant comments at petr stations etc.

Saying that there used to be a griffe down the road from my parents house.

Well I live in France...see plenty of 205s, rarely any GTis, and even fewer CTis. Often what appears to be a CTi turns out to be a 1.4 cabrio dressed up to look like one.

Just have to assume that the French didn't go for the peformance versions in a big way. Strange, because it's clear they recognise and admire GTis & CTis.

The scrappage scheme in 1992 onwards killed a lot of them and also changing the CT (French mot) from every 5 or so years to 2.

The French also up until recently haven't been too bothered preserving their cars.

Tons of xad's and dturbos though, oh my brother has an xs as a spare hack.

Just got back from France.........after 3 weeks and 2200miles, although not in the 205.

Spotted a 205GTI and a 5dr 309GTI - both in TBE or trés bon état! (VGC)

Go to Morocco and you'll see hundreds of boggo 205s as they use them as taxis!

I remember seeing a Griffe whilst surfing in France, and I couldn't believe it given how rare they were.
