Reverse Light Not Working

Recommended Posts

starky5

Hi,

Got my MOT On Friday so I was checking my lights and I have no reverse light! Checked with a multimeter and I have no power to the light when in reverse. I'm after so suggestions for where to start looking as time is very limited as I'm working tomorrow and its booked in Friday morning!

Not sure if its linked but I saw that the reverse loght is on the same fuse as the cooling fan which also doesn't seem to be working! I've checked the fuse and changed it anyway and it hasn't made a difference.

HELP!

thanks

Mine doesn't work either and I'm not sure how to fix it but never fear, you don't need it for the MOT

you don't need the reverse lamp for the MOT, it is not tested.

reverse light is not on the same fuse as the cooling fans, the fans are on a separate standalone loom plugged into the shunt box.

find the plug on the gearbox for the reverse lamp switch, turn the ignition on and bridge the terminals, the lamp should illuminate, if not, check for a live feed from one of the pins and earth, then if that is good check continuity from the other terminal and the reverse lamp.

The reverse light is not present on some 205s anyway.

The Gentry for example, doesn't come with a reverse light as standard.

If there's no voltage at the light then the next place to check would be the switch. It's screwed into the top/front of the gearbox just next to where the clutch arm is.

Ideal, I just assumed it would be tested. Ill check out the switch this evening when I get in from work then.

Thanks

When mine packed up it was the wiring.

Just so you don't feel alone mine didn't work either, and it turned out every plug connection alongthe way, including the lamp holder needed cleaning up, it took ages to get it working.

My first step was to check the switch; then if that appears to work short the wiring back to the light and follow the wiring through all the plugs to the light with a multiimeter, the haynes manual drawing was easy to follow.

Reversing lights are not be part of the MOT but they are a requirement for type approval of a new car so I don't think that can be right.
