205 Values?

Recommended Posts

Chris H

Not wishing to take the thread "on Topic" :-) but it seems while std road 205 gti's are appreciating quite quickly, competiton and track cars are falling at quite a rate.

However, i've just bought a 205 gti road car for £100.......apparantly it runs and drives but i've not even seen it....don't know if i'm mad or wise....sure it must be well worth the money no matter the condition as it wil break for a lot more. Yet to find out if it is 1.9 or 1.6!

I used to but scruffy but esentialy complete and road worth 205 gti's for £50-200 quid all day long5-10 years ago, now the equivalent cars are £500-750.

I used to get 309 gti's for free....now i can't even find a trimed 3 dr shell cheap

Prices are going a bit daft in some places. Been looking for a laser green one for a while but as things currently stand I'll not be buying one.

Original parts are getting harder to find so are costing more... Means that even bad examples have a good value of parts on them.

As a recent buyer I noticed that the expensive ones (around £4k) hung about. Even now quite a few of them are still for sale. Having looked at one of those expensive cars i can imagine it's probably because the condition isn't as good as advertised. The one I looked at had been restored but it had been done a while ago and a few things were needing done again.

Cheapest i saw was £700 advertised as an easy restoration project. Was it hell. Several bits missing and rust on every visible panel.

Spotted quite a few Mi16s and the odd GTi6. They were always advertised around the price of the standard ones but you would se the prices drop quite rapidly as i think the demand is now for standard cars or as near as.

Have to say i don't think the values will shoot up overnight any time soon but I can't see them falling either.

I will be putting my white 1.6 completely standard 77k, of course I'd like top money for it however its going to depend on who's looking and if it ticks all the boxes for them as to what it achieves.....

You mean the yellow flagged d*ck Turpin?

Dealership near SECC surely must be good for parts as its where Rab from PSCUK works.

I won't, was a parts manager for their rival Belmont on the other side of Edinburgh which is now a Evans halshaw although I hate Evans halshaw with a passion I still know a couple of the guys in the parts dept so I should be ok. I can look up the part numbers myself think I can still remember how!

I've just bought a mint 1.9 on a G plate with fully documented history and 1 owner. Cars are only worth what someone will pay for them and with so many mis-described cars out there I was more than happy to pay 8500 for this one.

Very nice :)

Is it similar under the bonnet and floorpan?

Yep - no rust to speak of anywhere and a nice layer of Waxoyl. Am debating whether to restore it to concours or just leave it original. No plans to use it or sell it either for that matter.

Not trying to put a downer on your purchase but sometimes waxoyl/underseal can hide some nasty's, am sure it will fine though.

I seen that one for sale and it made my mind up to get the seats on mine retrimmed with decent leather as they have been subjected to a lot of use.

Enjoy it.
