Wow - glad you're pleased with the car, but that is VERY stong money! As long as it's the car you want I guess it probably doesn't matter!

For anyone looking, there was a very original looking Phase 2 1.9 GTI on PSUK forum for £2900 quite recently, in lazer green with lots of history and lowish miles. Looks immaculate in the pics and is a recent show and shine winner etc, so would guess it's as clean as pics suggest. It may've sold by now but might be worth a look.

Indeed. I could buy a car which is advertised for 5k and easily have to spend 3k sorting out the rust, paint and engine issues. I'd rather pay that up front and have a car without the need for all that. As I said, a car is worth what someone will pay and I am very happy. Besides, the car is not for sale now nor in the future so the price doesn't matter.

I seen that one for sale and it made my mind up to get the seats on mine retrimmed with decent leather as they have been subjected to a lot of use.

Enjoy it.

The seats are lovely and well worth retrimming.

Is the leather original or have the seats been retrimmed? They look really fresh!

EDIT: assuming they must be retrimmed as the leather looks softer and smoother than the standard hide, and <nerd mode on> the stitching looks different <nerd mode off>

Yes they have been retrimmed in softer leather with slightly more padding too.

One went in dublin at auction,€12500, wasn't as clean as that, but full dealer service history.

Nearly have that spent on parts myself, before i've even painted it

Looks a very nice car. ????

Tit for tat I know, but personally, I would want the correct ph1 seats as opposed to the ph2 for that amount of money.

A G registered 1989/1990 205 like that probably came from the factory with those seats. They were introduced before the rest of the phase two changes so for a while that was the combination that was sold.

1989 August Quartet seat trim velour in black and red with plain black velour side supports.

This is correct for the UK market, it may have been different for other regions.

Very nice car 'Stain'. Well cared for (which I'm sure you will do) its sure to bring you lots of pleasure, many an admiring glance and over time increase in value. Are you planning to take it to any shows next year? - always nice to let others see and enjoy quality cars. :)

Mine is an 89 G plate, first registered 31st December 1989.

It had the phase 2 seats with phase two plastic arches and phase 2 fuel pump.

I find the dash is the best indication as its less likely to get changed. Black dash = black arches, Grey dash = grey arches.

Thanks - I don't use it much but when I do I get lots of admiring looks and people stopping to chat about it. I have a range of other cars which garner the same reaction so this fits in well. I plan to attend some meetings with it and will trailer it to the ones which are further afield. There are a few bits I need to source first like a petrol cap trim, and the trims around the electric window switches.

To the member who mentioned the seats - this is how the car came from the factory. The previous owner was fantical about this car and I have every invoice and stamp in the service book done by the supplying dealer. I will do the same for continuity.

I stand corrected, I was aware there were some "parts bin specials" on cars built around the changeover years, just always assumed the ph1.5's should have the ph1 seats as its a fairly noticeable change.

No offence intended btw.

None taken. I had an 89F with the grey and black seats and the new dash. This one is a Jan 90G with the polka dot seats so must've been one of the 1st in this config.

Mine was built april 89, reg on a G, be1 box grey seats etc.

As kieran said they trickled the changes through as and when starting in august 89, but there will always be late registered cars that have sat about and others that have come straight off the line and gone straight to customers.

The problem is the terms phase 1, phase 1.5 etc. Peugeot didn't use those terms, they just had a programme of constant improvement. ServiceBox divides 205s into pre and post 1991 initially then when you drill down to individual parts changes are shown from fixed cutoff dates or vin numbers.
