Stuck Torsion Bar In A 306

Recommended Posts

starky5

A friend of mine is trying to lower his 306 with a beam that hasn't been apart in the last 10 years despite my warnings! To my surprise we managed to get one of the bars out but the second is well and truly stuck!

It's just bringing the trailing arm off with it, can you get away with just pulling the arm off enough so the bar comes out the other end and then turn the arm and push it back in? Then do the other side as normal since the torsion bar came out?

Thanks for any help

Pull the arm totally off, apply heat and hammer, or just hammer.

Fit a short 13mm bolt in the end you are hitting so you don't damage the bar.

clean everything.

replace shafts bearings and seals...

fit it back together at desired ride height,

Ill suggest that to him, the problem is he's just trying to boy racer a 5 door. He just wants it sitting silly low without actually fixing or improving anything haha. Doubt ill be able to get him to change the seals and bearings but ill try!

Thanks

In that case just turn it two splines and push it back in, she'll sit on the bumpstops and should give the desired look whilst ruining the handling ;) low and slow as they say
