This is a little long winded so sorry in advance....I have a 1.6 gti with uprated head, cam with vernier pulley and adjustable fuel pressure regulator, not sure on type of cam fitted only thing I have is receipt for 160bhp head?? Seems a little optimistic to me? Now I'm sure with these bits done its going to compromise drivability and idle however I still want to try and get it running as smoothly as possible. I've fitted a good afm checked coolant temp resistance all good and checked sad valve appears to be working as it should. Am I being a little too hopeful in trying to get this car starting and idling like standard? The car drives fine. It does surge a little when the throttle is backed off and creeping along. Please excuse long post and thanks for any advise

Not from LAD is it?, but anything over a 270 cam and the ECU does't like it

It was from hiflow heads? I need to change rocker cover gasket tomorrow. Is there likely to be any markings on cam worth taking note of?

Thanks

cams are usually marked on the end, under the pulley usefully! you may see some casting maker markings, but unlikely to find any profile specs without removing the pulley.

I would start by getting at least a fuel pressure gauge on there if not binning the adjustable item and fitting the standard 3 bar one, with a wild cam at low revs you will get the AFM flap flapping about a bit so its always going to be tricky getting it right.

best bet if it is a raised compression engine with a decent cam is aftermarket management, or something like MP3.1 mapped to suit.

8v cams are generally behind the Dizzy so worth removing, But no way in the world will you get 160bhp on std injection, If you get 140 your doing well, But I'd give it a good check over, the last head/engine build from there you might find about in a search on the Forum or WP will find it

I did think 160 was optimistic. I've been over most of it and generally doesn't appear too bad. As far as I can gather from the cars history one of the previous owners fitted the head approx 20k ago. I will put a standard fuel pressure reg on it today see what difference that's makes I want to check tps is set up right what resistance readings would you expect on c/t? Thanks for your advise

Gasket didn't turn up till I closed up today so didn't get chance to change that an check cam out but I did fit standard pressure reg which has brought down the HCs on the emissions O2 is quiet high but no air leaks present. Still trying adjusting tps, mixture and idle to get best drivability/idle though think I need to check vernier is set correctly though any ideas where to start with this?

My 205 has 156,7 Hp at 5949 rpm and runs on a (modified) Jetronic.

Here are some details: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?app=garage&do=view&id=94

Here is how it idles  : https://rapidshare.com/#!download|635p1|3718854383|PC200012.AVI|24082|0|0|1|referer-22A1CBA22145873B550D755726048571

Now I have a slightly bigger throttle plate and most of all the Bosch ECU 0 280 000 336 from a Fiat Uno turbo 1.3 that allow me to push the fuel at just 3,2 bar as with the OE ECU I had to keep it at 4,2 bar and I was lean above 5000 rpm, so I am confident now it could have the "famous" 160 Hp :P

What are the HC's? Only reason my Mates having the same issue but not seen the car yet

Sorry Miles, I don't know the HC figure, but I guess they are sky high!

At Idle it has about 3,8 / 4 CO, well really I could drop it to 3.5 but the idle will suffer a lot because of this.

Maybe the good result is also because it has your new KS liners in it! :D

HCs on mine are around 400ppm O2 is up at around 8.0 and co around 9.0-10.0 it varies cannot quiet seen to get adjustment right. idle fluctuates 950-1100 but starts poorly from cold and can stick up high when warm?? I'm sure someone that knows there way round the Gtis better than me would prob sort it no problem :)

Way too much fuel by the sound of it.

HC's are a little better than my mates, Worth checking the timing as this can have a huge effect on them

Timing is defiantly a good shout on a standard set up it would be easy enough for me to sort but I'm a bit clueless when it comes to setting up the vernier on the cam. Any suggestions? Getting the timing right if its out will bring down the HCs and the O2 I was hoping to not have to start messing around with the timing.

Yeah it's a 1.6 apart from receipt for head and the obviously fitted adjustable fuel pressure reg I'm not aware of any other mods. Throttle bodies black but I'm assuming someone's just painted it.

You need to be certain the cam timing is correct, its not that difficult to do but you need an angle gauge for the crank & a DTI to measure the valve lift.

You also need to know what cam you have fitted & its full lift timing after TDC (usually between 108' - 112').

Hopefully theses photos up load. Nothing I can find on the cam to identify it or under dizzy. Not really wanting to remove pulley yet. Profile on lobes look pretty high to me. I have an angle gauge will have to have a hunt round see if I have a dti gauge.

The vernier looks barely moved from the standard position imo, any markings on the cam will usually be on the dizzy end.

How they can state its a 160bhp head I'd love to know, maybe on a good spec 1.9 but unless your 1.6 is very trick, now way, especially not on the standard ecu.
