Brakes Not Holding Pressure!

Recommended Posts

DGTi

Hi everyone,

I am still waiting to get my Mi16 conversion back on the road, and it feels like the silliest of things that is stopping the car from working.

After all the hurdles we've jumped with the wiring and so-on now the brakes don't hold pressure!

In the pursuit of fixing this issue we have replaced the Master Cylinder, and the drum cylinders TWICE!

The mechanic has gone round all 4 corners blanking the pipe and bleeding / pressurising the system to work out where the pressure is being lost, and he came to the conclusion it was the rears hence changing the rear stuff twice!

Speaking to him this morning he has said that the pressure has gone again. The impression I get is that when there bled the pressure is there. Then after leaving it stood for a while the pedal just drops straight to the floor and nothing!!

Worse than that in fact he is saying he's now stumped and has no-where to go. Theres no fluid loss or leaks!

Really disappointed I booked the day off work today to pick it and its my birthday!!

Please help, any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Does the pedal initially hold pressure, or does it slowly sink to the floor if you maintain constant hard pressure?

Does the pedal successfully "pump up" after its gone to the floor, or will it just keep going to the floor until it's been re-bled?

Was the replacement MC a brand new item or a used one?

I had exact same issue until i got an eazi bleed kit, it can only be one or two things air in the system or mc is worn out

The brakes initially hold pressure then we come to it the next day and the pedal pushes to the floor.

It won't pump up it just keeps going to the floor, and it was a brand new MC

We used a pressure bleed system initially and then went to the old two man method on the 5th attempt!lol

Could be the rear shoes not adjusted up properly??? Clamp the rear flexis with mole grips and test the brakes again

Just because the master is new, doesn't mean it isn't the problem.

If it won't even pump up, it can only really be the MC, surely?

10 points to that man :D

I got the car 'taken' to another garage and with a 2nd set of eyes the shoes weren't adjusted up properly!!

After they were put right we re-bled the system and got a load of air from the rear line!!

Thanks for the help guys
