309 Gti, What's It Worth?

Recommended Posts

mech205eng

I'm going to look at a 309 gti tonight and i don't really know what it's worth? I'd appreciate any help...I'd rather not hear "it's worth what someone will give for it"

It's on ebay but as per forum rules I won't link to it.

H reg

130k

full mot

no tax

3 door

standard apart from exhaust and looks to be lowered on the rear

silver/blue

If you need a better look to help me i'm sure you can find it

Thanks

Looks right enough, how much does he 'have it advertised elsewhere' for? I'm tight and wouldn't pay much more than a grand for it, at the end of the day they're relatively undesirable and there's nothing particularly special about the one you're looking at. That said, I bloody love them

Buy it on body condition, they rust, some worse than others so go over it with a fine tooth comb. Front and back of sills, front panel, all round the fuel tank/inner sill area and boot floor are the main areas.

Quite

Mine was on its arse and true enough it was truly like fatty's leg.

They aren't all rotten, but very few have escaped, another area to check I have found is the seam from rear panel to boot floor, and the inner quarters to boot floor.

Under the rear seat as per 205's where the brake line to hose bracket studs are spot welded on.

I'd love another, but definitely a 3 door!

Front strut tops seem prone to going on them too, and since they appear to rust from underneath upwards, by the time you see bubbling they're in a right state. Of course, whilst comparitively poor by 205 rust standards, they're still very good compared to a typical 80's Ford.

Price wise, I'd guess £800-1000 ballpark would be about right, maybe a little more depending how good it is when you start poking around. Prices have gone up considerably in the past year or two, owing at least in part to their comparitive rarity these days.

Very good cars to drive and in some ways I prefer them to a 205

Rung the guy up and he's wanting £2000 and reluctant to budge. So i'm not going to bother going to look at it. Shame but thanks for the advice
