306 Mi16 Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have been offered a cheap one of these 306s ( http://www.redbook.com.au/cars/research/used/details/1997-peugeot-306-n3-93775?R=93775&Silo=spec&Vertical=car&Ridx=1&eapi=2 ) with a blown engine. I have a 1.9 mi16 here which should be good to throw into it. My question is, would it run (it's only 100 ccs more) off the magnetti marelli 8P management or would it be a full on conversion? And should it all just bolt straight in or will there be issues like putting one in a 205? Has anyone done this before?

Regards,

Michael

I think the closest system you'd get to run it would the the S16 management off the RFY engine.

Fuelling on a 100 ish bhp 1.8 8 valve would be nowhere near what the 160 bhp 16v would need rev limiter would likely be several hundred rpm if not a whole 1k lower.

the 2.0 is far closer in spec, and at least most the management stuff will bolt on.

I ran my 306 with the xu9j4 engine - but i did a full conversion and ran it on bosch motronic.

It would work with all the relevant sensors etc but running a 16v engine on 8v management is a recipe for a blown engine, you're lucky the MM8P system can be remapped at a price (~£500) but finding someone who can do it might make it more hasslethan doing a full conversion to a suitable management system.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a mi16 motronic loom and ecu here so I'll look into how hard it would be to wire that up.

Sam, was it just a bolt in job other than the management?

More or less, obviously you use a 306 gearbox. I used early s16/xud9 (non turbo) driveshafts as the later s16/gti6 ones were slightly too long. Aside from that it's just wiring.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm not going to go ahead with this for now, because the car looks like it has no engine problem at all. (fingers crossed)

After I brought it home today (with a supposedly blown motor) I found out that the bloke I bought it from had put about double the amount of oil it should have in it - it was pouring out blue/white smoke. I simply drained half of it and took it for a good run and it looks like it is all sweet.   So that makes life a bit easier. (Until I get power hungry) :D

Edit: Grammar
