What Parts Do I Need For My Gti6 Conversion?

Recommended Posts

jameswallace.

Iv been reading a few build threads as im trying to get everything together for my conversion. So far I have;

Reangled manifold

Group n mounts

Baker bm thermostat adapter

What other bits do I need? I know the loom needs to be modified but are there any other parts I need? Iv heard some sensors may need changing? Is this true? If so which ones?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before but I have been looking but havent found too much stuff.

Also if anyone knows or has any really useful build threads please link me!

You have NOT looked hard enough. Every 3 in 5 topics on this forum is about a GTI6 engine swap!

you need to chop and re angle your down-pipe. you need to weld in a lambda boss. you need to sort the coolant pipe from the expansion tank. Baker bm do one which has a 'T' in it. you will also need to sort something with lowering the radiator from the inlet manifold. you also need to angle the master cylinder or at least cut the cam covers to avoid it. Use original gearbox, but you'll need the gti6 flywheel, and an mi16 / bx 16v clutch, with release bearing to suit your current set up.

cba to write any more, use the search function.

Look at any of the detailed build threads in the 'engine work' section and you will soon see what's required overall when you've read a few. There's a link to mine in my signature - I've photographed many of the steps and you'll soon see what I've bought and can make your own informed decision to whether for example to use a BBM water hose kit or make other pipes work for you.

Yeh thats the thing iv been struggling with theres a lot of different things all around and its difficult to piece it all together and get it all in one place but build threads are deffo the things im finding most useful. There also seems to be a lot of people who dont know what they are talking about making comment which confuses stuff

If you're changing your mounts I'd also order a slightly stiffer lower fork bush or at least a new one. I think kam racing do the stiffer and neat autos do standard.

Maybe increase it, not double. I can't see any item there that was of great value. Plus, the purpose was not to record budget, it was to highlight what's required.

Because it was an image that I used when I posted the same pic in another thread regarding conversion costs.

IMO you have missed out lots. Coolant/oil/water pump/gear oil/driveshaft oil seals/modified exhaust manifold + downpipe etc etc etc. Yes it is a good basis but not to be used for a complete parts list.

Your budget will double, you'll come across plenty of things that you'll want to do during the conversion like renewing clutch fork bushes, coolant pipes, clutch cable, speedo cable, gear linkages, radiator, cleaning + painting engine bay etc.

Yeah as orb said the cost is irrelevant I just wanted a list of some of the things I required. I' taking my engine out of the diner car which I am using as a daily at the moment. And putting into a 205 with a 1.6 gear box which I'm planning on using even beside all the people warning against this but I've decided if I don't like it in just gunna switch to the gti6 one or purchase a vts one. So that removes most of the gear box cost.

I also have;

The mounts

The exhaust manifold

The thermostat adapter

I think I can use my current lamda sensor?

So the rest of the things I need I think are the following

-Reangled down pipe

-All the equipment for fitting a new cambelt

-Oil pressure adapter

-All new silicone hoses which im planning on getting from blue bolts 205

-Mi16 clutch

-crank sensor

-twin drive speed sensor

- stock hubs to fit gti6 brakes with 1.6 driveshafts

Any bits anybody think I've missed off? Or any bits you don't think I need??

Also why can't I use the standard 306 oil filter? I assume down to the size?

And will I need to get my ecu unlocked?

I'm using the stock 306 (well, xsara for me) oil filter.

Changing the oil pressure sensor is a huge ball ache and I never bothered.

Not at all, it's easily doable with off the shelf parts.

Takes 15 mins. If you can't be arsed running a new wire in the loom you can use one from a redundant plug very close by, then connect the other end to the brown plugs.
