Lets Call It A Gentle Misting

Recommended Posts

Well 2 weeks since I finished the vtr conversion it all is going well, car goes and starts much better, managed to bend a wheel in a pot hole but the biggest issue now is, smoking.

Odd one really, when its hot leave it idling couple of minutes then give it a rev and you get a nice puff of white smoke, once this initial rev has happened its relatively clear, give it a hoofing down the road and it is clear. Cold start there is a bit of smoke but no where near as much as when it is hot.

As yet I haven't done a compression test but what do we think? Poss stem seals?

Stem seals would be my guess, as the symptoms certainly fit. If you get someone to follow you, does it happen when you change gear as well?

Generally speaking, on an NA engine smoke under high vacuum conditions (ie idle and overrun) is likely stem seals, whereas smoke under load is likely piston rings.

White smoke isn't oil burning, usually head gasket

Even "blue" oil smoke looks white to the untrained eye at the glance though.... it's merely a slight blue tinge in my experience.

No it is oil burning, I know that smell head has been off as I thought it was stem seals
