Hi, I'd like to go back to original setup with my phase 1 GTI so I'd need original hight for the back - say, from ground to the highest point of the edge of wheel arch, has to be on 185/60/14.

C'mon guys, you're the 205 gurus, surely somebody knows what the standard height of a 1.6 gti is? Please...

Hi.

Refer to the rebuild guide on the main website. It advises how to set the correct height. 330mm between shock mount points

Refer to the rebuild guide on the main website. It advises how to set the correct height. 330mm between shock mount points

This height is taken from the haynes manual for the measurement between shock bolt centres when rebuilding the rear beam & not the height from floor to wheel arch as requested.

It is also widely believed to be wrong, using this distance puts the back too high & its been agreed on here that 324mm dummy shock length is much closer to correct.

I recently raised mine up and used a piece of wood as a dummy shock set at 322mm between centres and its very close, could do with raising up just a touch though. Recommend Tom Fentons puller if tackling this job, bit if heat from a blow torch and they came out no problem!
