Morning all, is there an actually bhp benefit to drilling out bumper etc for airflow to motor?

keen to eek out every last drop but the car was dynoed at 187 as it stands and i dont want to affect this,

I cant see any BHP benifit to this modification, maybe saving alittle weight, but i think the mojority of the benifit is air flow to the radiator or intercooler, stops the need for a fan or even if you have a bigger rad, the airflow is limited by the small opening that is the grill.

just good for keeping temperatures under control.

ive just drilled holes like above under where the number plate is. i remove the plate for track so the holes help but also when in road form it looks more subtle

I don't run any extra holes and have no issues with heat in the Aussie summer. I can see up to 80-85 deg of inlet temp in pit lane, but as soon as it's moving the inlet temp drops to ambient. Well placed stickers will improve hp however.

Have to agree with peter, I suspect if you wind tunnelled a car with those holes you'd find very little change in the flow of air through/around the bumper and grille. I've never bothered and suffer no issues, mind you it's a bit cooler over here!

Thanks for replies all, as said not gonna do it if no value in it, temps are all sweet so will leave alone,

If anything, you create more drag and turbulence with all the holes than a nicely shaped spoiler.

Check that the lower grille blanking plate is not still fitted, removing that will help.

sweet FA benefit as where those holes are drilled is exactly where the bottom crossmember is not the rad. If you want to increase cold air flow remove grills altogether. I wouldnt bother unless you have overheating problems, This would not affect bhp. An old headlight with glass removed and piped to a direct cold air feed would. Unless yo

That's assuming it still has the crossmember?

Since when's the crossmember been behind the bloody bumper?

I was reading the instructions (I know, I know instructions are for girls etc etc) for a Davis Craig/Craig David electric water pump recently and it stated; 'cooler engine for better performance, hotter engine for better mpg'. Any truth in this then or should Craig David stick to R&B?

the front panel bottom piece where the rad housing rests on which i call the cross member. Yes cold air will get you slightly more hp

I believe bigal is referring to the first pic of the red car when he mentions the holes in the valance being in the area of the cross member supporting the fan housing.
