Sunroof Missing Something?

Recommended Posts

JamesE

OK so my sunroof has a handle of some sort missing, but does it look factory spec? How do I know if its vacuum operated?

After using it for the first time yesterday, it rattles like crazy when closed!

Any help would be gratefully received :)

Oh and if anyone has a spare sunroof I could buy too that would be great. My current roof has had a bit of a bodge job done with silicone sealer around the two round trim holes...looks a right mess.

That looks like an aftermarket sliding sunroof, and yes, there's a piece of trim missing from what I remember of that design.

The factory fit vacuum operated sunroof has the handle on the rear of the roof/light console and - unsurprisingly being a factory item - looks a lot more in keeping with the rest of the car, and makes a noticeable "hiss" noise as you move the handle from the closed to open position and back again.

I have a complete vacuum setup that is currently on my car being broken. I'm happy to take it off if you want to come and take it off with me so that you know you have everything needed and can see where everything goes after.

It all worked fine!! PM me about it if you're interested so this thread doesn't turn into a for sale or wanted thread??

Edit::

Oh... You're in Hull!!

Bloody great...I'm presuming after market means rare for bits...

Cheers for the advice. Can anyone can confirm the actual make?

You can't just swap an aftermarket sunroof for a factory one - very different design and fitting, not to mention the hole in the roof being in the wrong place

For what it's worth, that style of sunroof is reasonably common fitment on 205's and hence there's a few around, although the majority of aftermarket sunroofs are the simple pop-up Britax type from what I've seen. One problem you'll likely find is that almost every one I've seen has bits of it broken or damaged, as whoever the manufacturer was used a grade of plastic that even the French would reject as excessively flimsy and brittle :(

Apologies, assumption (on my half) was that they'd stick to a certain amount of standardisation and keep the holes in the same places.

Assumption being the mother of all again!!

That's exactly the same as mine - a dealer fit sliding roof into a non sunroof shell with the deflector fitted to the top.

I can get a picture later of mine if it helps, although what you are missing is effectively a recess that the handle goes into the stop it sliding back. No doubt farily easy to find something completely unrelated which is suitable to do the job.

Got the same sunroof on mine, except i am missing more of less everything in the picture. It is indeed the dealer fit one, such a shame that a non sunroof car was cut up to fit it.

A photo would be great when you get chance

I'd like to see how that ends up Juttie! Would be something i'm interested in doing to get rid of the horrible current one.

Is there really that much difference between the two?

Yeah, the dealer fit one sticks out like a sore thumb, has a much higher profile and parts are very difficult to come by. The standard one by comparison fits the lines of the car well and parts are easier to find. On the other hand, cars with the standard one have a bit less headroom.

Bear in mind that my dealer fit sunroof is missing most of its parts and doesn't function at all so thats a large part of why i would swap - if yours is more or less complete and functions then i would be less inclined to do so.

mine dealer one was complete but was silconed shut as rubber seal knacked and i hated the look of it hence why im changing to a vacuum one. I was lucky to get hold of another roof wiyh a complete sunroof and air tank and pipes and headlining i have allready removed the strenghting beams from the roof and am using the new roof as template to cut bigger hole then will bond in beams and fit sunroof.

Sounds like there might be more than one design of dealer-fit external-sliding roof about, then.

Ours is a dealer-fit, with glass marked "SOLASLIDE" or similar. Grey-brown tint, with lots of the "dot" shade-out towards the edges, and a blue tint deflector. It's really not that much of a sore thumb, and seems fairly solidly built - the only problem with it is that the rubber channel's shrunk and dried a bit, but it's almost certainly a standard size - must get round to measuring it and seeing what I can sort.

Can I also ask how you remove the sunroof? Might try and clean up all the dodgy silicone sealant...
