A Serious Topic About Cupholders....

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I'm not the only one who commutes in a 205, and I'm damn sure I'm not the only one who needs a gallon of coffee before I'm able to function at 5:30am on the way to work.

And here lies the problem, the 205's biggest flaw; the lack of beverage holding capability.

Quite frankly I'm tired of my cheap bit of plastic that hooks over the door down the side of the window rubber, as it ritualistically spills coffee on my knee round roundabouts, on my speaker over potholes, and when I wind my window up after coming through the security barrier at work, I regularly knock the thing off completely.

Has anybody come up with any genius solutions to safely transport hot liquids without risk of gentital burns??

I'd like to see some photos of good quality sturdy cupholders if any of you have them!

And i'd very much like to see if anybody has retrofitted a pop-out one from a more modern car. I got a double pop out one from a vectra or something from the scrappy a while ago before realising it was far too chunky to fit anywhere, and a red bull can wouldnt sit in it properly, so that went into the pile of crap at the back of the garage.

Answers on a postcard please!

I've often thought about this myself as I'm quite fond of having somewhere to store my drinks and as you say the 205 does lack this.

I had a proton compact some years ago that had a very small twin pop out holder which tbh I didn't even know was there for some time as it was that well hidden.

Worth a shot if you can get hold of one?

I had this problem when i was driving mine. Put a shoe on the seat. It works wonders. A clean shoe obviously.

My C2 has 2 behind the handbrake lever which you could look at getting something similar to fit to a 205.

I like the pop-out one on the 106 dash!

A boot seems like a good Idea, but my thermos mug is a bit top heavy, and i dont fancy spilling coffee on my leather seat if it topples over!

I'm wondering if the air vent on the right of the steering wheel might be a good place to graft a pop out on into, assuming that wont be in the way.

Is it not a bit of a faff to reach around to get a cup from behind the handbrake? I've got a little bit less space between front seats due to mine being from a 306, so I might struggle with that.

random ideas:

> some sort of fabricated holder where the fag try/lighter & clock is?

from my experience ill always trust my phone clock over the 205's clock, and i dont smoke so i dont need the fag lighter etc etc

Subaru forester rear seat cup holders are are upright then when released become horizontal.

dont think there is anything substantial to fit it to there sadly

> have a cup holder come out horizontally from the store bin under the stereo. (will keep the coffee nice and hot too from the manifold if you're pushing on too) A Subaru forester front dash cup holder is a pull out unit with a support base, although in the 205 the coin tray would probably surface as lower support,

could be mounted to the top of the store bin with adhesive,a bracket or self tapers, so the space is still usable and the bin hatch will still work.

if i had my forester anymore i would go get some snaps of the holders, always found them very good and never spilt anything.
