What They Worth Now

could you all take a stab at what a phase 1 205 1.9 gti is worth in fair condition with say 100k on no history on original engine etc, and how much it would be devalued if you pulled all the interior out and made it more track ready ?????

Making it "track read" is likely to considerably devalue it compared to what it's worth standard. Reasonable to good standard, original GTIs are increasing in value. Track slags are not. Track cars will always be worth a fair percentage less than the money put in to them.

Look on eBay for what similar cars in either state are going for.

or Pistonheads, but do bear in mind that they will only be the advertised price...

i contacted a few people selling phase 1's on auction (*ebay), all sold with less that 100k like mine most went for around £1900 but no one paid or collected them so its hard to value it properly.I put mine on gumtree at a stupid price of £2500 just to see what happened had a few calls offering around £2k but no real interest i'm guessing it will be a long hard process when it comes to selling it.

It sure was easier selling my MK2 Golf and Volvo T5

With something like a phase 1 gti, unless you have someone wanting a phase 1, there are plenty of other phase 1.5 / 2 models that you are competing with. Most people will just see a 205 gti, no matter what phase it is.

The reason most don't sell is because the ads are crap with little or no info bar the usual "CD player, electric windows, central locking....etc" type listing crap or when you turn up you find out the person is either A. clueless and hasn't ever looked under the bonnet/car or B a total chancer.

The guy I bought mine from was A. Thankfully he was also crap at haggling.

depending on how extensive your track slagging is, could you not just keep all the interior in the garden shed until you want to sell then plonk it all back in?
