An Exchange Of Skills - In Action.

Recommended Posts

I am a member here and Detailing World. I recently out a request to any local members here who were interested in an 'exchange of skills'.

I am usless at mechanics and there are a couple of niggles on my car I would like sorted out. I offered a days worth deep cleaning, I don't Detail I leave that to the Pro's.

Local man Mark answered my call. He only lives a 5 minute drive from me. We met last week to have a look over each cars and discuss what we were going to do.

10 am this morning was the time set set to begin.

Here's how we started off.

For 21 years of age this Pug is very very tidy. 72,000 miles, all bills/receipts from new and all MOT's.

Started off with a rinse down, Wonder Wheels, Demon Shine Dirt Shifter and a good go of Magifoam Snow Foam. :)

Snow Foam left to dwell for 15 mins. Got the brush out and of course the obligatory petrol cap shot.

Rinsed off again, dried off and pulled into the garage to get under the bright lights.

Again the paint work is not bad. A few scratches here and there. However, I have seen worse paint on cars a 10th of this age. :doublesho

So on with the polishing using my DA, orange Hex Pad, yellow Mernzona Pad and Megs ultimate compound.

Before:

After:

After each panel. I hand polished with AG SRP, applied AF Tough Coat, waxed with Dodo Juice Blue Velvet Pro and finished with AF Finale.

The 'exchange' in action. All sorts of electrical wiring stuff going on here to get my reversing light working.

The stunning 1.6 alloy wheels.

Added a coat of Dodo Juice Purple Haze for protection.

Cheeky little shot of both girls together.

A 9 hour job I really enjoyed.

Mark thinks I'm mad but I thought it was a great exchange and really glad took the opportunity to asked.

Finally the before and after shot.

I'll let Mark ask any questions about the wiring as there was a problem removing the reverse switch on the gear box. He tidied up loads of wiring for me and he tested alsorts of stuff and it appears I have a duff switch.

A new one has been ordered and we wil get together again soon.

Just realised I have posted this in the wrong forum.

Mark is a memeber of another one. Oops.

If any one can change a drive shaft rubber (CV Boot?) and want a deep clean in exchange then let me know. I'm Romford, Essex area.

Cheers.

The quickest way to check the switch is to put a wire across the plug that goes on to it., if the light come on the switch is at fault, if not it's somewhere else.

Hi Matt.

The light was on at one stage.

As above I know nothing at electrics and it has been diagnosed as a fauty switch.

A new one has been ordered.

We will wait and see.
