Stealth Shelf

Recommended Posts

I'm in the middle of making a parcel shelf for the CTI, just to use up a pair of 6x9's that I have kicking around. When the hood is down I know they will probably be useless but lets face it with our weather that's a rarity. If I make a stealth shelf can I cover the whole of the shelf with acoustic material or do I need to cover the speakers with a different type of cloth (to allow the sound through). Thanks.

If its proper acoustic material then cover the whole thing, it's designed to let sound through, an old bit of carpet on the other hand would muffle the sound.

Whatever you do, use something don't have bare speakers on show or you will end up with some nice speaker prints in the rear window like my old one from being folded down on them

I made my own shelf and am pretty pleased with it. I built the pods and mounted the speakers underneath with the grills on (incase the roof came down and went through the cloth). I actually covered it with a seat cover from an old ERF flatbed lorry, only slightly fragranced by the sweat of a truckers arse crack ;) The sounds comes through very well and much better than anticipated. If anyone was shining a torch through the perspex window they would just see plain material and it looks very original. I will post some pics soon,
