Koni Vs Avo Suspension

Recommended Posts

jord294

hey up forum members.

for those with more experience than myself, which suspension kit out of koni adjustable and avo adjustable, would people recommend.

i'm a bit undecided, as they both look a decent package.

i can get the avo 'roadsport' kit for £450 new. which includes adjustable dampening struts and rear shocks, along with lowering springs

or

2nd hand low mileage koni suspension kit for £620. which includes adjustable dampening struts and rear shocks, with eibach springs and strut top kits.

avo available in the uk, but the konis are in australia, and the £620 includes postage to uk.

any advice appreciated.

thanks

Personally, I would not go with the Avo's - unless they've improved their design since the units I have experienced, they seem to be fairly failure prone and don't seem to last very well at all. Fluid leaks and failing adjusters were the common issues from memory. They were quite good when it came to support and repairing them though at their UK service center though.

Koni's certainly used to be good quality, but that price sounds very expensive to me, particularly second hand. Are you sure they're no longer available in the UK, as the "Sport adjustable" (yellow) used to be around the £400 mark new a few year back?

Personally though, I would go with Bilstein for something around the £500 mark - either B6 or Challenge spec units, depending on intended use.

thanks anthony.

trouble is, i'm a big fan of eibach springs, but they are NLA for my peugeot.

bilstein b6 were my first choice, as they worked exceptionally well on my 306 rallye. but i'm after a decent spring to match.

i would like the car approx 30mm lower.

If you only have the choice of koni or Avo, I'd get konis but neither are great.

If it's for a 405 I'd be looking at 306 bilsteins

Koni are Dutch not Aussie

no issues with Koni here, suit fast road very well in my experience, but for not much more you can get BIlstein as mentioned.

my only experience of Avo is others having sealing issues.

Miles

For Koni give Camberley Auto Factors a call, head office is the place as they import them, cost new has generally always been around the same as the Billie stuff, Avo's as above and not just on Pugs they tend to spring leaks quite often, Repair turnaround thou is spot on and a couple of sets I have sent off have been back in around 1 week

i phoned camberley auto factors

for front struts and rear shocks they quoted £490, and i have also found bilstein b6 struts and rear shocks for £580

i am slightly more drawn towards the konis. not just because of the cost, but because they are adjustable

i have since learnt i can use struts and springs from another model of peugeot, but am hoping to buy the specific suspension kit to suit my car.

just waiting to here about some springs

thanks for the input guys

I would be careful using stuff from other pugs, 405 springs are so much longer than any other I have worked on.
