1.6 Gti Bleeding Brakes

Recommended Posts

Projectuno

The Haynes manual is unclear about the rear brake compensator...

Is it something that needs bleeding directly on the unit it's self or via the left hand rear brake calliper?

The procedure says that the pedal should be pumped 4/5 times with the bleed screw open. Surely air will get back into the system, otherwise what would be the point in tightening the nipple each time between pedal depressions?

I bled my 1.6 by just opening both rear nipples for a few minutes while letting the fluid run through. I didnt bleed it directly off the compensator

Should have added that i then did the open close method on each nipple when fluid started to weep through.

...and what about the compensator that the Haynes insists is done immediately following the left rear (near side I presume)?
