My Coil Packs Set On Fire

Recommended Posts

What would cause coil packs to set alight?

Ill change the loom but wanted to know why it would happen?

This was on track at croft, and it killed another three coils after that (had spares), and two at the beginning of the week whilst I was at a competing in a sprint.

Now I need to refill my fire extinguisher.

Cheers,

Jake

Just a knackered coil breaking down causing a short and lots of heat.

Seen it a couple of times before, never that bad thou but always when the packs have been changed along with the damaged wiring all seems good

Try running without the cover on to get some air over them

Are you running an aftermarket ECU and set too much charge time? Coil over plugs don't need anywhere near as much time and will cause them to overheat.

Standard ECU, don't think it's even been mapped. Could it be a dodgy ECU? Ill change the loom in case it's damaged somewhere as I've got a spare, had to cut the wire to put a new clip on that goes to the coil so it looks a mess now.

Miles, after the fire I took the cover off and went back out on track and it still done another two coils.

Surly cant have that many knackered coils so something else is killing them.

I'll have to check. Battery went flat at croft aswell, a few people pushing sorted that lol.

Just checked alternator is doing 14.4 volts at idle.
