Oil Cooler Take Off Plate

Recommended Posts

rallyman

Hi guys, ages since I have been been around - slowly getting some time to rebuild / preparing my 1.6 205 Gti for various events (inc. daily drive) and I am fitting a Mocal thermostated take off plate - picture below.

When I finally get the engine in to the car. which way do the take off inlet and out pipes need to be orientated ? - I presume the current position - the pipes will hit the alternator!

Has anyone done a similar mod and got some pictures they can share?

I will be using a std 205 oil cooler in the front fan housing - Is it correct that I need to fabricate new pipes?

Thanks in advance for your help.

MJ

Can't remember whose car this is, but it shows the space you've got tow work with...

The connections on the standard oil cooler are imperial, and are a type normally only used for air conditioning pipes, They won't fit the Mocal take-off. You'd need someone to make up a pair of hoses using the original fittings at one end, and whatever threads you have on the take-off plate at the other. Or you can replace the cooler with an aftermarket one with more normal type threads.

I dont have pictures yet sadly;

I had a 205 D turbo twin fan housing and fan kicking round, took one of the fan housings out then removed all plastics from one side, free'd up SO much space and allowed to mount a 7 Row oil cooler above the bar along the bottom, works really well packaging'wise

will get a photo if you are interested in this a little more :)

Yes, if you could post some pictures that would be great looks like fun and games for me doing this!

Did you use braided hose or just normal rubber?

christ i missed this completely! Apologies mate!

they are standard oil swaged pipes that came with the kit, tempted to get some braided swaged made for it.
