Planning A Ring Trip, Need Opinions On Accomodation

Recommended Posts

mech205eng

I'm currently planning a road trip to the ring in august for me and several mates. None of us have been before and need to know where to stay. Opinions of where to stay once we are there are welcome but there is plenty of information that's easy to find about these places. The plan is to stop off on the way there in Belgium, and either camp (so can be near to cars) or find a decent hotel (secure car park) Where has anyone else stopped on the way there?

Cheers

If your planning a trip in august then check out www.retrorun.co.uk theres a group of us going 1st week august inc several 205's and other retro cars. We camp at camping am nurburgring whilst out there, and sometimes stay at the etap at charleroi airport on route as its cheap (and basic but ok) and has a secure car park.

i've already looked at the retro run before. Looks good and i'm sure would be grat fun but the intention was for it to be a mtes holiday. Plus not everyone going has a car that would qualify. I'll keep airport hotel in mind though cheers

Personally I wouldn't bother stopping on the way there, its 5 hr from ferry port to Adenau with a quick stop for a bite to eat a coffee and a slash. The two ways I've done the trip there are to either (a) go to Dover the night before, stop in digs, get 6am ferry next morning, drive to Adenau arrive mid afternoon, check into digs, then do the evening session which means you have something to look forward to all day (B) set off early morning, get midday ferry, drive across to Adenau, arrive knackered in the dark, force a beer down go to bed knackered.

I think you can probably guess which I prefer.

Me and my girlfriend stopped in Blaue ecke when we went last year. Only five minutes from the ring and the hotel itself was brilliant and had its own secure car park.

I've stopped in three places.

Sliders, good atmosphere, plenty beer in the fridge in an "honesty" system, friendly host, downside is that it's about 20 min away.

Hohe Acht, 2 min to Brunchen, less than 5 min to main ring carpark, decently priced clean, beer on tap, but on its own and limited parking.

Edgar's in Herschbroich, very handy for ring again 5 min away, can walk it into Adenau, plenty of hardstanding plus use of garages if required, very competitive pricing.

I'd stop at any again.

Tom I was thinking about trying to do it all in one day, but going the night before and spending the night in dover does sound better. Thanks for the hotel recomendations too!

Another thing is whenever i speak to anyone thats been they always went on the ferry. Why doesn't anyone seem to go on the eurotunnel when it only takes half an hour and you can get return ticket for as many people as you can get in a car for littl over £100 (for that price you have to go early morning or late at night though)

i went euro tunnel 1st time i went there wasnt that much in it tbh although ferry back is good as its a nice break after a long drive and you can sit down and have food and drink. Also on retro run we do dover to dunkirk ferry as its a slightly shorter drive then

As Mike says its a nice break from sitting in the car on the ferry, you can have a bite to eat and a drink and all sit round for a good chat.

For me and a few we go with we take the cars on trailers, so the tunnel is a no-go, either it's massively expensive for the trailer or they won't let you on, I can't remember which now.

It is do-able in a day, but its a bloody long day. I much prefer the overnight stop in Dover. That also means that you can go to work that day then go down to Dover in the afternoon/evening.

Tunnel here every time, Turn up and go pretty much so no waiting around. Ferry's are late, Go on strike more times than I remember, weather dependant too, take age's and you have or can have loads of screaming kid's running around

You'll easily drive there in one day. If you put your foot down you can be at the ring in 4 hours from Calais. I did it 2 weeks ago.

Blaue Ecke every time for me. Godo position. We know the staff (some very well!!! lol), and a good secure car park with gagrages for storage etc.

Good prices too.

We did stay one year out of town and teh most fantastic place with an old woman who spioke no english and treated us liek her family.

She even made us a pack lunch for the way home!!

If i take the misses I may stay in the special guest houe she's got which is liek an huge open plan barn with a floating wooden floor in teh middle with teh double bed, rungs everywhere etc.

Defo one to impress teh birds with (amazing views too).

But as I say - Blaue Ecke is the firm favourite.

Stay at Michaela's new place (she used to run blaue ecke). It's called Guesthouse Fuchsröhre. They've got a bowling alley downstairs, bar with huge tv and a ps3 with wheel, seat and pedals and lap time leader board akin to Top Gear's one.

Tell her Jonny sent you

I'll have a look at that.

Michaela has always been a good laugh and really helpful.
