2.0 Mi16 Head On Gti6

Recommended Posts

dom604

I have a 1.9 mi16 engine with knackered rings. So I bought a gti6 bottom end. Got put off with doing it and needed the car back together to race.

So I bought a 2.0 mi16. He said it was a good engine. Got it home. Spent the week fitting it after work. Started it Friday. Bottom ends rattling!! Now ino the gti6 is a good bottom end. I had a look tonight to compare the bottom ends. And looks like an easy swap. Except I noticed the gti6 pistons have tiny valve cut outs compared to the 2.0. So Is it better to keep the pistons. Or swap everything from the mi16? Cheers.

I read somewhere about the compression dropping abit. Will the cams not hit at all? I'm taking the pistons out to fit arp bolts anyway.

But if you recon go for it I will :)

I wouldnt bother with arp's, given its standard you dont need them and standard are good.

Dunno what you mean about cams hitting.

I'm finding it all a bit hard to follow. What good parts do you have?

Use the 2L Mi16 pistons & rods with the best block and the GTi6 crank. It's not much more work to swap any/all bits around.

If the 2L is rattling bad, you still may need to close & hone the 2L rods however. If you have ARP bolts, do it.

Be aware that there are differences with head bolts if you decide to put the 1.9L head on the 2L block.

I'm running 45 dellorto a on it and a 4 branch.

I have a good gti6 bottom end.

A 2.0 mi16 engine that has the signs of a slight rattle.

And basically a 1.9 engine that's needs new rings.

Wasn't sure with the valve

Clarence because when you use bigger cams in c20xe's you need new pistons with bigger cut outs. And with me reading up gti6 have milder cams. I wasn't sure bolting a mi head on it mite cause some valve piston contact.

The GTi6 pistons are the problem, as you've seen. You can fit cams with lift up to 0.105" @ TDC on 2L Mi16 pistons.

I haven't got a gti6 head. And my 4 branch etc is a 9 hole one not 10.
