Hand Break Cable Question ?

Can anyone tell me which side if looking at the back of the car the slightly longer hand break cable goes on ?

right hand side, only 15mm in it for a disc setup iirc.

 

20mm for a drum setup.

Does it matter if they're both the same?

 

All the ones from the 4 I have are same length...

I realise that, just that all mine are and am wondering if it makes much if any difference if they are the same?
