Running In Gti6 Turbo Engine

Recommended Posts

carlh.1

I have started running in the new engine. I'm up to 300 miles, with all seeming well so far.

I'm only revving to 3500 ish so far.

The only issue I can see is the coolant temp is staying between 77 to 80 degrees when driving. When left idling it climbs to 84-85, then straight back down to 77-80 when I drive again.

Is the engine running to cool or does this sound normal for steady running in driving?

Cheers carl

That sounds fine mate. Turbo engines are renoun for running hot. My Astra vxr runs nearly those exact temps and that's with a normal thermostat in and many people put a cooler one in to bring the temps down further.

Got any pics or build thread for this btw

So you don't think it's to cold? I suppose the temps will rise when it's getting more revs.

Pics of the engine are in a the topic, which turbo for 250hp

I'm getting the numbers from the data logger on the emerald ecu welsh.

It's staying so cool because you're barely using the engine, no revs etc. IMO by 300 miles it should be well run in already. Did you bed the rings in properly during the initial running in? That's the most important bit.

It isn't welsh no, am I right in thinking it should open at 84, are you thinking it could be stuck open? the car has got a large alloy rad on it which will be keeping it cool, plus it's not having any real load on it yet.

it should still reach temp and stay there even without load, just take longer.

Im hoping so allen i was told to take it to around 3 to 3.5 until it started to boost to spread the rings into the cylinders then off power and allow it to run down on vacuum, and so on then a few hundred miles in take it up to 4 to 4.5, change the oil at 500, then get 100 miles on it ready for power mapping this thursday, does that sound right?

I have been told millers 10w 40 fully syn tri ester oil after runin. can any car parts shop get this oil or is it special oil?

No welsh it happly sits at 77-80 all the time i drive it so far, been on a none stop 80 mile drive last nite

A problem I have got is that Sunday is a crap day to run an engine in! Every body over the age of 60 descends on all the usually quiet country roads and decide to drive at 25mph! In a 60 speed limit area!! So I have lost the will to live and given up for a few hours until they all go home to watch songs of praise!
