Evening

this picture doesnt show it - but there are 3 wires going into the base of the metal cylinder

Sorting out the electrics in the engine bay this evening - found this; was in terrible condition - is being replaced regardless, just want to know what it is; and what its part number is!

It had 2 wires going into it - 1 brown and 1 purple,

It has C9 stamped on the bottom of it

Roche et Moreau Gennevilliers - Is stamped around circumference on the 'C9' base

It appears to be on its own with no other wires linking up to it in the engine bay, it dissappears off into the interior on the fusebox side of the body.

Good luck!

Cheers

John

Think it may be a fan sensor for the radiator. I dare say i may be corrected.

It is either the low speed fan resistor or the dim dip resistor. Someone will be along shortly to confirm which no doubt!

its the dimp dip resistor, sits under the headlamp on the front panel and connects to the lighting loom not engine loom, low fan speed plugs directly into fan loom as pictured above.

its alloy, probably 25+ years old, its allowed to corrode a little! I wouldn't be worried about a dent, its just a big resistor inside a heatsink, if it works leave it alone.

not sure if you can even get a new one though.

What's a dimp dip sensor do? Never heard of it.

When you turn the lights on to the first click on the stalk then the resistor reduces the brightness of the headlamps. Then when you turn to the second click the lights get full power.

As Ryan said above. Its so you dont drive the car on sidelights alone. Dipped beam comes on at a reduced brightness.

Would a dodgy one of theis cause my lights to be slow to 'glow? On side lights or would that bean earth issue?

Dim dip for sure. Yep I'd recommend cleaning your earth connection points.
